Just have to look at Australia/UK/USA or many other countries, no single party has been able to hold on to the majority for long, and the critical issues are not adequately resolved with each change of power.
Sinkie land is fortunate to have Ah Gong who held the country together during his lifetime.
In fact, China's meteoric rise was in large part due to its having the same government for this long. Although it initially screwed it up under Mao, the leaders who came after him were all well educated, including Deng. If China had been beset by political instability and warlords fighting for power, its growth would have been derailed.
This is not to say that China did not have an undercurrent of political and power struggle. It had and still has and Xi is very well aware that his head is high on the Wanted List of his opponents. But so far, the CCP had, by whatever means, morally right or not, ethical or not, been able to retain an iron grip on power and advance its policies which proved to be beneficial for China, even if other countries felt they were hegemonic and that the CCP were, at times, acting like bullies.
The US, on the other hand, is in disarray. When Trump came to power, he undid all the good things which Obama did.
There is a great deal of similarities between China's and Singapore's models. In the case of China, they appoint their successors within a consensus in the party, but after some internal struggles for power (for eg Bo Xilai was jailed) whereas in Singapore, successors are presented to the voters to let them say "yes" or "no" in a GE. So far, it had been "yes" but this does not mean that it will always be the case.
But once done, the ruling party is able to make long term plans...unlike in the US, where Trump simply abolished Obamacare resulting in one of the world's best healthcare being affordable to only the rich while the masses are dying...from Covid for eg...many of the dead are "black lives" which didn't matter to white supremacists like Trump...and then, the Paris Climate Accord was repudiated by him, TPP was unilaterally rejected by just one man...and on and on.
If Singapore goes the way of alternating parties every one term, or two terms, I am afraid we may one day have to beg Malaysia to take us back. If I have written all these before GE, I know a lot of edmw oppos will say "IB dog is trying to do fearmongering! Woof! Woof!" But GE is now over...it's not fearmongering but a warning to zoomers. They have have five years to think about it.
