throw smoke? are smoke grenades invented yet?

I am sure they throw all the smoke they can on actual day.

Just that in Hollywood if you throw smoke you only end up watching a grey screen.

The soldiers defending the beach would have sighted the beach and be familiar with it. So smoke can only do so much.

Yup. Rare of them to give another perspective.

Watch Flags of our fathers too. Saw on a documentary that the long lost flag raiser was found, but he did not want anything to do with it becos of the trauma of war :(

Normandy beach landing is the biggest scale assault landing ever. In the film , it didn’t show the allied forces supremacy on air assault plus warship pounding the German defence line. The German forces were not as strong on the Normandy stretch cause there was a decoy at Calais (shortest crossing on the English Channel). Hitler had majority of their Atlantic wall troops guarding that coastal stretch but was out witted. So the allied troops at Normandy had it easier.

Supposed to have bombers bomb the beach first one but screwed up. Dun know why they still continue the beach landing and not wait first

I actually like The Pacific the part where the MG was shooting whole night and the gunner got himself a medal of honour.

in the morning a pile of soldiers there
They shld do a TV series on 442 Infantry Registration too, consists of mostly second generation Japanese Americans. They have a lot of badass war accounts

Everytime I watch that scene, I ask why US don't want to use a big bullet proof large shield when they step out of that boat? First 3 ppl hold the shield for the group.

And why they don't want land at night when visibility is poor...
1. Bullets aren't the only ordnance used. Clumping soldiers together make an even better target. Just mortar behind the shield.

2. Why it was not a night landing is extensively discussed in history. Extensive training is required for boat crews. Large scale organisation of soldiers on the beach was determined to be likewise difficult. Some of these lessons were learnt on training missions on the south coast of england, others during operation torch.

The thinking process behind Operation Overlord is a very good example of large scale planning.

That's quite a simplified version of events.

In reality, the Germans had a clear idea that an attack may come from Normandy. The idea behind their defense was to use the seawall as a holding mechanism, while panzer was mobilised from beyond Allies bombardment range.

The New Guinea campaign is also equally gruelling, if not worse. Abt 90% Jap troops died mostly fr tropical disease or starvation, not to mention the region is known to be infested with crocodiles

i always wonder how come the American soldiers don't strap on their helmets?
won't fell off during the gun fight meh? :s11:

read on reddit that apparently it's cos they dowan someone to bankai them from behind using the strap to break their necks or if tio some heavy arti fire and their heads jerk backwards, the straps can strangle them.
