Everytime I watch that scene, I ask why US don't want to use a big bullet proof large shield when they step out of that boat? First 3 ppl hold the shield for the group.

And why they don't want land at night when visibility is poor...

Technology then not so good, any shield will have to be of a heavy density metal

The soldiers are already struggling to get to shore from the water with their personal equipment, how do you expect them to carry a big bullet proof shield?
