Think not beaten yet bah, since no cure in sight. Doubt anyone can be accurate about the numbers, since its not 100% testing. But think the more rigid and stricter control may have helped them managed the situation much more better than other more liberal places where many don't care just do what they like.

Think its not surprising the quick response and result given the consolidated power and unity of strength, can get things up and running, and orders executed more promptly. Afterall, they have achieved in just a few short decades the transformation from agriculture to industrialisation to high technology, which took the west much much more longer to achieve.

Thus think its what caught the west by surprised, what the west maybe worry more, that the west might be surpassed very soon (really so or not is another matter, the concern is there). Think its likely is what prompted the west to take aim at them, hoping to put obstacles and challenges in their path, slow down and hinder their growth and development somewhat maybe.

It's not that surprising if we think about it. A major part of beating COVID-19 is self discipline and compliance - mask wearing, safe-distancing, effective contact tracing. This plays to the strengths of a communist state like China; unlike the US and Europe where "freedom" and "human rights" seem to trump everything else (especially the US).

And then you have a leader like Donald Trump who couldn't care less about the virus or the health of the American people. All he cares about is himself - the stock market and his re-election chances. How to beat COVID-19 when your president downplays the virus at every opportunity he gets? Who refuses to set a good example by wearing a mask until he himself contracted the virus? Who refuses to encourage his mindless supporters to wear masks ("it's your choice")? Who still holds packed rallies without enforced masking rules as if there was no virus? Who suggested that drinking bleach and shining UV light within your body could perhaps kill the virus? Who claims to have beaten the virus when cases and deaths in the US are still soaring?

The irony is that not only is Trump not fighting against COVID-19, he is actively helping its spread by his actions and the example that he sets.

It's very telling when Trump complained during one of his rallies that the news media keeps talking about COVID, COVID, COVID - that the media is trying to hurt his re-election chances by putting the spotlight on COVID. What do you expect Mr President, when the USA still has one of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the world? He just wants the virus to "go-away" without having to do anything. And the results speak for themselves ...
