If u go dating or hang out with friends, those who can drive is considered more attractive than those who can't. Then those who can drive plus got car even more attractive.

I remember girls saying this:

No wonder lots of sinkies going into big debts, just for the sake of social status

Then u are mixing with the wrong girls.

Here's a tip - change ur friends.

All the girls I know do not see a car or driving as a social status. Just utilitarian.

But you are not supposed to drink if you are driving by law.

What's the fun in that?

Not just sinkies.

It's all over the world.

Even in countries with cheap cars, people still judge you by the car you drive.

For instance, in Europe, most people take public transport.

The better off ones buy the cheap cars which are in abundance like VW, SEAT, Peugeot etc.

If you drive a BMW 7 series, that is different.

There are only 2 types of people when cars are involved.

1 who drives, and 1 who cant afford to drive and whines about how expensive it is.

Which side of the coin you want to stand on, take you pick.

TS is still at the primitive level of complaining about drive or don't drive. It will take him awhile to get to the car model level.

Because driving is really a form of social status in Singapore. Those who drive are rich

This I have to disagree.

Of course the poor will not be able to afford.

But buying a car is not expensive. You can get a nth hand one for less than 10k.

USING the car is expensive. You need to pay for parking, ERP, maintenance, insurance, roadtax etc etc etc.

SO those who have car are not rich. Especially the old cars. They may be scrimping and saving just to have a car.

On the other hand, those who have new or expensive cars are rich. Or those who have more than 1 car in the household, these are definitely rich.

I am only 29 this year and I have about 100k savings and I choose not to buy a car because I see it as wasting of money. I am not complaining about whether I can drive or not because I can easily get a car with the money I have.

I am complaining why sinkies likes to associate driving as social stigma. If a guy cannot drive, means he is consider loser and not "passionate" in life and refuse to date him if im a girl. Whereas sinkie guys look up to sinkie guy that can drive and respect him more.

If today you get your wish and cars are no longer associated with being look up to..... your 100k savings at 29 will be looked down on la.

The race was always about who has more money and not who spend less money.

Even if you're willing to buy a car and drive, you'll still face problems like dark84 driving on lane 1 at 80km and expect you to be patient.
