Hey guys,
Passed on 2nd try yesterday at bbdc. 2.35pm warm up, 3.40pm test.

Total revisions taken = 6 (this is for those who think that it shld be normal to just pass after 20 lessons, I took 26 in total; those who pass after 20 lessons are really lucky and skillful. It is OK to take longer bah... Usually ppl who don't do well won't post on forum. My posting is to show what is real average.

Total amount spent = $2,7K

Just a few things to note for those taking test soon:
1) I got penalised for turning steering wheel while vehicle was stationary.
2) improper blindspot check, (tester really wanted to see ur head turning beyond the shoulder)
3) abrupt Lane change. (I think i wanted to get into the lane too quickly and steering wheel turn was abrupt)

Thanks for the encouragement in this forum. Thanks for those who passed and gave tips on what they were penalised for. That helped me to look out a lot.

congrats!!!! so happy for you :)

For private candidates, how many lessons you all took before going to test?

Hey there! It is quite normal not to pass first time. In the month of October last month, my instructors said that out of 15 ppl, only 5 passed in their group.

There was an instructor who taught me that learning how to brake is like digging nose. You apply pressure all the way until you can feel the goop, but u don't scratch the goop so hard else u will hurt urself. So nearing the goop u go gentle. Then once u feel the goop, u increase pressure. A bit like brakes. Once u press u apply pressure but don't go all the way else will jam brake. Once u can feel veh stopping then u apply a bit more in a very gentle manner.

Hahaha funny illustration but it is so good at visualisation.

:s13::s13::s13: your instructor is so funny!!!

I feel so lost and sad. Failed TP today with 40 points, I can’t vertical park no matter how many times I tried. During lessons also struggling with vertical parking :(
I went for 40 lessons so far under school. Should I give up?
Parallel park I can use mirror and markings to gauge but vertical is extremely difficult for me

School teach parallel and vertical parking may not be useful outside I guess.

Anyway is this your first attempt? How come 40points?

Ya first attempt. I exceeded 3 mins for vertical park immediate failure, strike kerb twice when trying to vertical park. I tried a few times to go in but car keep tilting if when I make adjustment, after that striked kerb when go in.
Once tester announced immediate fail he started to deduct points he say I didn’t check safety, didn’t turn back head to check. Does this mean if I didn’t fail he will not have deducted those 2 points for safety check?

Really trauma I spent $3300 did 35 lessons but still can’t park :( other people fail when going for lesser classes. Anyone gave up after one TP?

Don't give up!! When i failed the first time, i also failed at vertical parking. cause i strike 1 kerb and i panicked and then straightaway another strike. IF. Didnt even complete the circuit. Told my instructor the lesson after i failed, he console me for a good 10 mins. He even told me he got this student, exiting circuit with 18 points and but still pass. I think for me is lacking of confidence in parking. So i took a session to really jus "relearn" parking again until i really know.

I think the best tip is to keep asking question and practice until you get it right. Remember your stopping point and what to look out for. Dont rush move on until you are all steady to park by yourself without instructor help. Anyway safety check the back is a must, so even if you didnt fail, he will also deduct marks for no safety check if you didnt check your back.

How many points did you get for your first TP? My instructor asking me to take 5 revision lessons under school then do TP. That will be $700 more :( I can’t afford so much at this period. Feel so sad that I’ve spent so much money.

Gxgx :s12: . We had the same test time! Which road were u assigned to?

Hey! I don't remember the last one route number, but it was the one where I had to u turn to a road with 3 lanes (and opposite lane also have u turn). Its the one where if opposite traffic is also u turning u cannot really see if traffic is coming up.

Which route did u get?

Hey fifi, is this bbdc?

These are my notes for vertical parking at bbdc.

1) Position car to the right (sighting point: your right hand on steering wheel is in line with centre white line on road)

2) make sure car is straight and u can see ur parking lot on left side mirror.

3) Rem S. G. M. (SIGNAL left, GEAR to reverse, MIRROR adjustment on both sides to see ur wheels)

4) safety check (super wayang look rear, and ALL AROUND)

5) Reverse slowly until you can see (one black and one white kerb stripe of the parking lot).

6) safety check for blindspot on right, rear again

7) full lock to the left and reverse slowly, taking peeps to rear view (once or twice) and to the right. Look at ur right and left mirror that wheel is not touching kerb soon.

(don't panic if hitting kerb, correction is very impt.)

Usually my left wheel will be too near the kerb. If left wheel is too near to kerb, quickly return wheel to straight. Then reverse with straight wheel for a bit until you see your left wheel passes the left kerb safely, then full lock to left again reverse in.

If by this time u see ur right wheel is v near right kerb, return wheel to straight and stop moving immediately. Change gear to Drive, drive straight up around 0.5m, stop. Then engage reverse gear, full lock to left and go into lot again.

8) once u park and want to go out rem S. G. M again (signal, gear to drive and adjust mirror back)

9) make sure kerb is at ur shoulder before you turn ur wheel when exiting.

I hope this will help you. I know how it feels like after failing. That sense of disappointment will fade away.

I told myself it is a matter of time....be kinder to yourself!

which sch? did you ask your instructor for pointer? my bbdc instructor is pretty good. Did not demoralise me and taught me how to do correction, which is slightly relevant in public parking.

vertical also tilt both mirror till see wheels, if you see almost striking kerb. stop and adjust accordingly. Adjustment instruction is hard to type out as need to see what situation you are in. different strike kerb position have different correction.

Thank you! Do you have a photo of the black and white kerb to look out for? For parallel I find it’s easier as my instructor told me that’s black and white kerb to look out for in a certain size before turning, I took photo of it to remember. My driving skill is more towards remember kerb and counting when to turn :(
I am in ubi under fixed team, the instructor did help to point out my mistakes and I can drive more confident. But it’s just vertical park, he keeps telling me to turn by estimating the car park lot which I can’t. We spent many lessons on it too :(

Hi I did ask for pointers, vertical parking my fixed instructor ask me to turn by estimate car park lot I find it difficult to estimate. I learn by memorise the kerb or markings.

tell your instructor to drive and stop at the point where you can do a full lock reverse into the lot. He exit the vehicle and you sit into the driver seat. Look at front to gauge how much distance you need to be away from the side kerb. after that look at the passenger window that is closest to the lot and recognise the lot marking

the above is not fool proof, as all lot are different in a certain way. it is a method to get you to recognise the basic, distance away from side kerb, lot markings.

I failed TP on my second attempt with 1IF. Need opinion if I should go for 1 practical session or a few times before my third attempt? Total practical lessons i did was 27 lessons. I feel like I wasted so much money and honestly I am not sure if I should go for my third TP attempt. I always did well during lessons and during the warming up prior TP. But when doing the actual test, I always screwed it up. Btw is there any limit to take for TP test? Or tester will read your history before doing TP test??

just press on, if not confident to complete circuit/ road then better to go more lessons. There's no limit to taking TP test as far as i know of, and the tester wont know that ure re-taking the tp test.
