hello all, recently got a 3 node Velop mesh for my boss's big big house. Its a 2 room landed unit, but freaking wide.

So he was experiencing that the wifi went down for 3-5 minutes and its the first time he complained, not sure if it is consistent or not.

I also read online that some other countries do face the same issue - so wondering if anyone face this issue and how to counter ?

If that is the case, just laying cables and use Ethernet backhaul. I assume this is just small money for the boss.

Starhub only issue ONT to their subscribers.
MX5300 can directly connect to MX5300, no issue.

So i should be good and safe to just connect my MX5300 wan to the starhub ONT and can connect without any issue?

THank you.

Yes that is correct.

To play safe, you should shut down the ONT, remove your old router, wait for about 15 minutes, then connect your new MX5300, then power up the ONT and MX5300.

finally setup my mx5300.

Now. How can i test the connection speed between the parent mx5300 and child mx5300 node?

have been using velop for years, since the first beginning..

i never had internet dropped on velop, apart from the auto update situations in midnight.

velop might drop internet due to the device connected to a node that has poor backhaul connection, or that the parent node might be having connection issue.. otherwise once the mesh is established, its pretty wrong.

since you mentioned your boss has a big house, perhaps can consider hard wiring the nodes together to provide strongest backhaul, otherwise relying on wifi for large house isn't the most practical way to cast wifi net.

I didn't daisy chain as well. I wired all nodes to my router, since it has 8 LAN ports anyway. LOL.

if you daisy chain also doesn't matter, because the LAN ports on velop acts like a switch.

Sorry for the very noob question: how did you wire all the nodes to the router? Is there a specific setting or configuration? I presume they're all in separate rooms with LAN points that "link" to the router?

I tried doing this (plug the child node into the LAN point, which are in turn joined to the router LAN ports) but didnt manage to get it to work.

effect of firmware

Has anybody noticed a difference or problems after a firmware upgrade ?

I will normally leave it on auto update but noticed that my system had not updated to the latest firmware 1.1.14.203054. So i upgraded manually but then noticed my phone could not connect to wifi. I then rolled it back to 1.1.13.200506 and everything went back to normal.

Strange that a later firmware would cause such issues, but maybe thats why it was not rolled out here by Linksys ?

I think you are having the same problems I had when I first tried plugging the child node into a LAN port on the network.

The solution I found was to set the Velop into Bridge mode before plugging the child node in to the LAN port for ethernet backhaul. If you do not, you will end up with NAT conflicts with two DHCP servers competing and the whole thing becomes unstable.

What I learned was;

1) Set up the Velop network as per the app instructions, each node one by one wirelessly. Do not plug in any ethernet cables to the child nodes yet!
2) Switch the Velop to Bridge mode.
3) Then plug the child nodes into ethernet ports that are connected to your switch or router on the network. This allows your router to be the sole DHCP server.

2 devices, 1 connect to parent mx5300 , the other connect to child mx5300, do a file transfer

Convert MB/sec to Mbit/sec

To wire all the nodes to your router, the velop system must first be in bridged mode. Otherwise, you can only wire up from velop to velop.

To set into bridged mode, you first have to configure all wirelessly first before attaching Ethernet cables from the nodes to the router..

Auto update server and the online link are usually not in sync when new update is released, that’s what I observed..

I choose to let auto update run by itself and even if it does upgrade, it’s always in midnight where there isn’t much traffic..

Has anybody noticed a difference or problems after a firmware upgrade ?

hi bro, are you sure about that.

you can generate a report from http://192.168.X.X/sysinfo.cgi and then search for "bh_report" which gives you the internode speeds and RSSI. I found it really useful in determining the best topology for my network.

how to get this info?

If my parent node is 192.168.0.1

So i change to 192.168.0.1/sysinfo.cgi?

I tried then need to enter user and pw. Which is the user and pw?

Thank you.

If u have never set a local user name and password before and all along have been using Linksys account to login, then u need to log in using the webUI first. It will prompt you to create a username and password.

You need any one of the recovery keys in your network.
