Thinking of upgrading to the new wifi6 velop mesh with Ethernet ports.

My current setup is on m1 ONT and Asus ac68 router (wifi disabled) and using wired backhaul to 3 rooms in the diagram. My Synology NAS is connected to the Asus router using the last Ethernet port available.

Can i remove my Asus router and use my ONT to route to the three LAN ports and connect my NAS to the parent node in the diagram?

No. A router is needed. If you need more ports, get a switch.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I can get a switch but not sure how to link it up. Can you share some insights? My current velop is in bridge mode thus not much settings to fiddle with.

A switch is just a dummy. Its just plug and play.

ONT > Router > switch > ports/devices

finally went to buy 1 unit of mx5300

was setting it up only to find that when you change new router for m1, you need to inform them to update the mac address or else it will never connect to internet

then after that, spend another good deal of time stuck in the linksys log in screen because the system does not send OTP code and stuck there,

had to use admin password to configure and finally i am done,

getting late, will test out the monster tomorrow !

just an interesting find today,

after setting up my new mx5300 as parent node and was playing with the mobile app to check my wifi status,

i found that all my devices are connected to parent node, regardless of band

so my 2 child nodes from 1st gen are redundant

maybe will turn off both child nodes and see if any changes

if no change, then can off them permanently to save on electricity bill

i presume you dont have linksys router

from the linksys app on your mobile phone, you can see the status of the nodes

which devices are connected and to which node it is connected to,

actually i only found out today

Looks like in your case, MX5300 performs very well.

MX5300 has very powerful CPU ( Qualcomm IPQ8074 Quad Core 2.2GHz Cortex A53 64bit CPU, much better than Asus XT8 which uses a low cost Broadcom BCM6750 Tri-core ARM Cortex A7 1.5GHz 32bit CPU. BCM6750 is also used RT-AX58U/82U and TUF-AX3000, and the cheap TP-Link AX10). So as a single router, I think it is actually better than XT8. I am not saying BCM6750 is a bad CPU though as I am using RT-AX82U myself as the main router.

However, as a mesh solution, XT8 actually performs the same or even better than Linksys MX5300.

Hi I have a velop Tri band series (3 nodes) w M1 internet. I tried to connect my first node to my existing Asus router and it connects successfully. But when I tried to connect to my second node, Linksys is unable to connect to it. Anyone can advise? Thanks

If previously I used asus router to connect to the m1 modem, and then I switched to connect e primary velop node directly to the m1 modem (without using asus router anymore), does it mean I have to call m1 to change the MAC address or smtg? Thks

Yes you have to do that. That is an M1 exclusive and quite annoying frankly speaking.
