I own a 2-year-old jap car now that I want to sell... to put it simply, can get about 45k cash in hand after selling.

I hope to keep maybe 10k or so and put the rest into the next car... monthly willing to pay maybe around 1k.

See here see there don’t know what’s the next car to get... very difficult to decide.

Prefer sporty looking saloon/sedan and horsepower cannot be too weak must at least current car of 120+...

Considering a few options but also got their cons, sigh, very hard to lock down a direction.

Opinions are welcome!

Why do you want to sell your 2 years old car and buy a new one? How to advise when we don't even know why you want to change car?

Summary: you want a car with downpayment $35k and monthly installment $1k and minimum HP 120bhp?

Haha sgcarmart search might be easier for you. Looks are subjective. I presume you had shortlisted avante. If not, then it iterates the idea that looks are subjective.

Better for u to state down which car you have shortlisted and we can provide an opinion.

R u looking for jap, Kor, or conti rides?

Looking for an upgrade.. or just a new ride of the same class...

Main reason for changing car is because the amount I can fetch now is close to what I paid for this car two years ago... so it is very wuhua and can look for an upgrade isn’t it?

Nope I did not shortlist avante, not looking for Korean... but instead looking at entry level conti...

and also looking at fuel saving hybrid options...

and I looking at around 35k downpayment and 1k monthly for seven years...

any suggestions?

I have a few cars in mind but mostly either out of my comfort zone finance wise or got its cons in one way or another.

Looking at:
1) new or 2yo CLA180 or A200. Prices quite high now compared to couple of months back... exceeded the budget I set aside for.

2) 2 year old A3 1.4. Meet my requirement for conti luxury and nice interior.. horsepower also not bad even though 3 cylinder. Financially it is the most feasible. But doesn’t seem to be a popular car... exterior especially length is very awkward. Down the road may be “sian” and regret then little resale value....

3) new Camry ascent sports hybrid. High horsepower and fuel saving but still very toyota in terms of looks especially interior... and prices slightly out of comfort. And roadtax very high at 1.7k yearly....

4) new Corolla hybrid sports. fuel saving. new car. reliable toyota. horsepower roughly same as my current. but looks wise cannot be compared to current ride and it’s like changing to same class and not much of an upgrade....

Audi A3 1.4T is not 3 cylinder. 1.0T is 3 cylinder.

In hwz, the angst & distrust against entry level conti very high. Better brace yourself for it.

TS financially savvy or not?the reason why you can sell your car high now is because the COE is high now causing the new and used car market to be high which means you sell high but also buy high.Don't be stupid,a car is only for you to move from point A to B unless you are earning alot which i doubt so.

It only makes sense to sell now if you're giving up driving. Or if you're downgrading your ride.

My suggestion is to keep the current car until it doesn't serve your needs. And please drop the A3 from your list, you're pretty much buying a VW Golf at a premium. if you want a decent entry level conti, try the opel astra 1.4t. Though the new ones are offered in a 3cylinder CVT guise (99.5k).

My first ride is a conti, let’s just say it gets really expensive to maintain when it’s beyond 5 years old. Traded it for a Japanese and I’d never been happier.

You may want to look into the maintenance cost of those conti you listed. Car ownership is never about just your monthly installments.
