Sian, one of my NAS HDD indicated "Crash". Any good place now to buy new HDD? Thanks.

Btw: My NAS is two bay, both HDD in use now are identical, can I just replace the "crashed" one with another HDD or I have to use the same HDD for both bay? (i.e. I need to buy two HDD instead of just one)

How did you create the volume ? SHR or RAID-1 ?
SHR, u are in luck any brands and same or bigger size can rebuild volume...
RAID-1 never try, heard more fussy....

Get Toshiba 7200rpm HDD from Tradepac. No need the NAS type, normal one will do.

As to buy one or two, can't advise as we don't know the age of NAS and HDD. Minimum is one of same or bigger capacity.

Thank you both. Mine is an entry 2 bay Synology NAS (around 4 years old), not using RAID.

Will try to get the Toshiba HDD. (currently both are Seagate NAS HDD, warranty is over :( )

guys, my 5yo 1515+ just died.
It suffered from random shut down 4-5 months ago and it worked flawlessly for 3weeks after I removed the casing. I was suspecting maybe some wires were suffering from minor damage due to the pressure from sharp edges of the casing so the power connection was intermittent.
Until a few days ago, it no longer boot-up after I shut it down a day before.
Nothing happens when I click the power button. I removed all the HDD and try to power-on, nothing happens as well.

Any guidance here? Thanks.

Most likely dust clog, lead to PSU overheat and burn-out or damaged the mainboard.
You have to troubleshoot like a PC and identify the faulty components 1-by-1. Some parts (PSU) can be brought online like shopee/Lazada.

If u find it too troublesome or time consuming... pull out all the disks (mark the sequence) and migrate to new DS1520+/1621+ (SLS selling 1k).

I have a Synology DS 411+ and it shut down forcefully due to a recent power trip at home.

I am unable to get it to power up since.

The LED light on the power adapter did not light up with main switch on. I suspect it could be a dead power supply. Any idea where to get a replacement or maybe OEM ones?

Or could there be other possibility?

My the other NAS, Synology DS 1815 is also forcefully shut down as a result, it is also dead. I posted issues with my 1815 before:

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/[nas]-synology-nas-owner-club-4133906-648.html

Thanks in advance for all advice and suggestions.

Oh Yeah, can u downsize 6bay to 4bay....?
Top up another $20, u get BNIB from SLS....

So far manage to mitigate noise issues with $2 noise damper tape from Daiso... so its whisper quiet now!!!!

Now dust starts accumulating in the bay after 1month... time to TB for front filters....

I run my NAS in the bombshelter... best solution for dust.

Just cleaned my NAS today and I'm glad I did - it was so dusty. I tried sticking to quarterly cleaning.

I used velcro to dampen the noise, it worked too :D

i just gotten my replacement unit ds918+. I slot in my 4x4tb drive and attempt the recover process.

It say "We have detected that you had moved the hard drives to a new ds918+ ..."

It gave me the option to click on Recover.

But after clicking on the recover, it rebooted itself and now it keep beeping...

status led = blinking yellow
power led = solid blue
4 drives led = solid green

Wondering if anyone got faced such issues before?
