You can get a DX517 which is a 5-Bay Expansion Unit to connect to your existing 1517+ and you can add 5 more HDDs.

Synology DX517 5-Bay Expansion Unit
I used to use the DX 513 series for my 1515+ but gave it away due to

1. slower than GbE
2. my NAS takes super long to boot up
3. the DX doesn't upgrade gracefully. i.e. the DX517 cannot be used with the older model
4. when I reboot, I am forced to reboot the entire unit (both DS and DX)
5. when the main unit is down, the entire NAS data is inaccessible.

I have discarded it and swap for a DS918+. My life is so much better.

Of course, your mileage might vary since I merely use the DX series as a holding area to backup my main NAS (yes a backup) unit, having a separate unit means I am no longer constrained by one NAS if either one of them goes down I can simply switch it around.

This one is a seperate box to allow you to add more hdds without having to remove or sacrifice exising hdds. The box will connect to your existing box via an expansion cable supplied together.

got a question: regarding "repeat for drive 2, 3.. etc."

would it be better after 1st drive has completed repair, put in all remaining HDDs in One-go, so only 1 more round to finish repair?

if you need to repair it means you are on SHR/RAID. If you are on SHR/RAID, what you have just said will never work. SHR2/RAID6 can do a bit faster.

What's the difference between HDD hibernation and Advanced HDD hibernation?

If logs show NAS woke up from hibernation average 20 times a day, is it better to turn off hibernation completely?

Your choice...

If you have the latest gens of enterprise/nas hdd, better to turn it off... as those disk are designed for 24x7 and don't require to spin-down/up, as constant on/off will put unnecessary stress to the disks components.

But, if you want to conserve electricity, need to enable hibernation before the NAS can standby...

I am using a mix of enterprise and non. I turned on hibernate since day 1... no issues.

Nas on/hibernate for multiple times each day. No problems at all

It only states to further minimize power consumption and doesn't go into details.

HDD hibernation by itself or with HDD Advanced hibernation ticked, both took around the same time to access NAS after hibernation.
Only difference I can tell is the LEDs are different in both modes.
further minimize power consumption lo.

DS920 purchased jan2021 warranty by agent EA https://www.eternal-asia.com/
The seller won't bother with after sales ;-(

Guess SS is better and can just direct RMA with them ...
some of them are pure sellers (distributors). The warranty on the site is not exactly accurate.

Synology tbh, has one of the most weird RMA practices in SG. Is like they don't really care about you and also, the warranty procedure is a pain.
