Correct. Only the Starhub TV+ Box FTA channels will need Starhub issues routers Nokia Beacon 1, Linksys EA7500 v2 or Linksys EA8100 v1.

If you do not have Starhub TV+ box, then Asus Zenwifi XD6 will work with Starhub Fibre Internet. I am using a Huawei AX3 Pro plus a pair of TP-Link Deco M4 with my Starhub 500Mbps plan.
Good morning!

On this point, I'm surprised SH hasn't published the static routes or VLAN info so that people can configure it themselves for their own 3rd party routers, or for these router manufacturers to include in a profile as necessary like they did for Singtel TV in the past.

Best reverse engineering work done here. You can use your own router, but you need a VLAN capable switch and you still need the Nokia Beacon 1 to connect to the Starhub TV+ box.

Easier solution is to install meWatch on the Starhub TV+ box to watch the FTA channels.

Yeah. I saw that solution, and yes it still requires that Nokia beacon.

Apps still don't work for elderly folks who are tech phobic. :(

Anyone recently done StarHub recontract? Any good deal on offer? My contract about to expire and after that I will be looking to recontract or switch the telco. I have my own ASUS router so not looking for any ISP provided router.

Easiest is to downgrade to 500Mbps plan. Then you do not need to worry about re-contract offer any more. Starhub is also good that they keep the price after contract expires. So I did not need to recontract and keep the S$29.9 per month for my Starhub 500Mbps plan. You may need to pay one time downgrade fee of S$32.10 (they call it modification fee).

Ref:
https://community.starhub.com/conve...r-star, the, hope this clarifies your concern.
But if you want to recontract for 1Gbps plan, then you may need to negotiate with the customer service to see how many free month you can get. Probably two to three months are not difficult to get. Higher number of free month may be difficult if you do not have Starhub Fibre TV or Starhub TV+ services. The other thing is to negotiate for the freebies like Disney+ or free Nokia Beacon 1 (which is lousy but you can sell them at around S$40 per piece). You can search this thread.

Asking for a friend. Any good offer from Starhub and what router do they give for 1Gbps plan ?

If his company has corporate plan with Starhub, where to go online to see the offer ?

Thanks

For good offers (especially for recontract) you may need to negotiate with Starhub. Free router is the lousy Nokia Beacon 1 (resale value in Carousell is about S$40 per unit, now they give two units for new users).

As for corporate plan, each company is different. Please ask him to check with the company.

As far as I know, you may not get better benefits from the corporate plan compared to the offer from Starhub though. But each company is different.

Current website offer is not bad actually for new users.

We are not familiar with router. This offer for new sign up, the free 2 units Smart wifi is this router ? So they offer this instead of free Nokia Beacon ?

For Starhub, Smart WiFi = Nokia Beacon 1, and Smart WiFi Pro = Linksys MX4200 Velop.

Called Starhub hotline 1630. Staff say only have this offer. Can't offer anything better. There is also a activation fee of $56.71 that he say cannot be waived. I tried to ask if can waive in place of Disney+.

According to the staff, corporate plan for all companies only for mobile plan, not for broadband. Is this true ?

Anyone know of any better broadband offer ?

Thanks

Is there any particular need for a 1Gbps plan? Most people should be fine with 500Mbps plans. Specifically for Starhub, there is the 500 Mbps 24-month plan at 29.90 per month, which does not provide a router iirc. Compared to 1Gbps at 45.90 per month, over the contract period the difference is $384. This is more than enough to actually get a decent router(s).

There is the "Singapore ISP Comparisons" thread you can also look at for the other ISPs for the plans that are available (prices have to check on their respective websites)

Thanks. They felt more comfortable with 1Gbpps because got 2 TV box, about 7 HP and 1 labtop using it.

Will check out the thread. 😀

Hi all,

I am contemplating of swapping from VQ to Starhub 1GBPS. Quite tired of the literally non working OneVoice with VQ. I am also amongst other considering SingTel and M1 but I am not sure which one would work best for me.

I have recently setup an AIMesh system with 1x RT-AX88U (main) and 2 nodes of RT-AX55. Any issues adapting Starhub internet services to this system? I do not need any of their TV services.

I also believe the Disney+ subscription is through the app?

Wanted to downgrade my 1Gbps HomeHub bundle to just 500Mbps Fibre only @$29.90/mth but thankfully I am eligible for 1Gbps Fibre only promo with free 5 months of subscription so the cost worked out to be only $31.50/ month.

I thought for just $1 extra, it’s a no brainer to continue with 1Gbps without paying $30 downgrade fee.

no brainer instead. however, i had used both 1gbps previously and 500Mbps now. it really makes no difference to most. haha. but price is definitely good for ur 1Gbps for sure.

Hi so on 500 Mbps when do wired speed test the upload and download speed will be capped at 49x Mbps? If yes then isn't this a difference already vs 1 Gbps which usually show 9xx Mbps?

true, there will be a difference during speed test, but in everyday life, the remote servers will be overseas and their upload speeds will be capped below 500Mbps anyway. Overall surfing and gaming don't consume that much bandwidth for the typical household (latency is more important). If you are doing sustained transfers of large files, then the higher speeds wil be beneficial.

Is smart WiFi sufficient for basic usage? Other ISPs are offering Asus/Tplink routers in their package so I'm wondering if there are any drawbacks from Starhub's in house router.

I do not recommend to base the free issued router as the criteria to select ISPs. I will recommend to buy better routers yourself.

Nokia Beacon 1 is a lousy router, much worse than the free Asus RT-AX55 or TP-Link Archer AX72 or AX73 offered by M1. So I would not say it is good enough for basic usage. However, I do not consider the two free issued routers from M1 to be good either. They may be good enough for basic usage though.
