Just set up 3 APs to test the case of 5GHz interference, roughly the three are about 1m apart to each other.

Then the laptop with Intel AX201 adapter is about 3m away. Using OOkla Singtel Speedtest server.

Asus RT-AX82U, AX5400 rated, CH60

Singtel Mesh Router AC1900 (free from Singtel recontract), CH157

That ain’t half bad considering the additional resources ax82u can take on in the future once the bugs are ironed out by mid 2022

heres some interesting stuff [ still in the mids of tweaking ]

wonder ifmy cousin bought the china version or what, its odd to see australia region lol

this is default nothing, nuked firmware factory hard reset

interesting Australia

Australia region is always available, whether it boosts the TX power is another stroy. As far as I know, only the China version has that "feature".

not really,

the ax86u was hardcoded not to have it , strangely enough

ok heres the answer @xiaofan

Divison + Adguard home [ both full and max filtering lists ]

still , very very respectable to be honest

will be testing all week, to see what kind of weird bugs surfaces however, its really bang for the buck for all home users who wants the best price to performance ration

though i dont think the 4rm hdbs, which have longer walk way might benefit, though if any ones willing to help test

I'm looking at getting the Asus RT-AX86U but the above discussion of 'China version' have me a little confused.

What is the difference between the 'China version' and 'non-China version' (i.e. Singapore / Rest of world version)?

Is the Gundam edition considered China or domestic SG version (e.g. this one https://shopee.sg/ASUS-RT-AX86U-WiFi-6-Router-AX5700-Wireless-AX-Gaming-Router-AiMesh-AX86U【In-stock】-i.583082992.8296532302?sp_atk=e0761b7f-6f1a-4ad5-b712-258a7be9526e baku)

Anything else I should be aware of here? Does China version come in China language? Will I be stuck with Chinese language?

Also I recall the RT-AX86u was only available to SingTel customers, at least for the black version. Did the black version ever become available to the public? I'm having difficulties find either version (Black or Gundam) in stock anywhere in Singapore. If anyone knows where I can get one would be appreciated (y)

Looks like the Shopee link you mentioned will be the China version without local Asus warranty. I myself will not buy this one for sure, without local warranty and yet more expensive than local Singapore version. Take note during Courts offer, local Gundam edition is at about S$320, with local warranty.

Other than warranty, the China version and Singapore has the same HW and same FW. So you are not stuck with Chinese language. The only difference is the country code hard-coded (at least I do not know of a way to change the country code). The country code does play a part for some of the behaviors of the router.

1) Main difference: China version has the "Australia region" hack, which enables higher Tx power for the router.

2) Wifi Country ID broadcasted will be "CN" for the China version. You may be able to temporarily to hide it. Local version should be "SG" normally.

3) The router will ping Baidu for the China version but you can change.

There may be other subtle differences, however, I do not think there are anything which will affect day to day usages.

All in all, I do not think it makes sense to buy the China version of RT-AX86U, mainly on the cost and warranty reasons. However, if you already get the China version, there will be no issues as well.

Thanks pretty helpful.

I'm trying to find local SG stock for RT-AX86U but seems it's been sold out everywhere :(

RT-AX86U normal version seems to be still exclusive to Singtel. Only the Gundam version is available for general public.

So one way is to talk to your friends using Singtel Fibre internet and buy from Singtel with the Asus router trade-in promotion. You can get an old Asus router from Carousell (say for S$10) if you do not have an old Asus router. The cost is pretty okay at S$14 x 24 = S$336.

Anyone with firmware upgrade issues? I can't seem to upgrade the ax58u with the latest firmware. There's also some dependency on having a prev version installed first before we can upgrade but the prev version is no longer listed on the Asus support site? How silly

Is your current FW version 384.xxxx ?
You can also update using the firmware for RT-AX3000 ( same model / different name )

Asus AX11000 + Asus Merlin + Division (Large Filter) + AI Protection + Brave Browser

sU80ONC.jpg

Haha, brave browser, that is cheating. :D
Just with Chrome+uBlock Origin, I will be able to pass 100%. So wtih this test, I am testing on both mobile phone and laptop, with the uBlock Origin or other ad-blocking plug-in diaabled.

Main difficulty is actually on my Realme mobile phones, which have hard-coded Google DNS which I need to block from the router through firewall rules.

That being said, I just disabled uBlock Origin for this particular test. It is still ON for other web pages. It is a good complement for the DNS and Firewall based solution on the router.

https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng/releasesgnuton has done the stable relase of the Merlin fork for RT-AX82U.
Version: Stable: 386.04_0-gnuton1

I have been running beta3 without any issues. So I just upgraded to this formal release.

One good thing is that memory usage seems to be stable at below 55% (now at 264MB or 52%). I used to have much higher usage with the Koolshare mod of the Asus stock FW.
