Is there any advantages the newer Singtel Mesh Extender AC2600 has over the Singtel Airties 4930 if wired direct to Singtel ONR?

Can't seemed to find any specs or documentation online on this "new" Singtel Mesh Extender AC2600.

I am now using Airties and will given a new pair of the Mesh Extender under new contract. I am thinking of changing my Wifi Mesh System. If this new Mesh Extender offers not much advantage/benefit over the Airties, then I might as well go straight to a 3rd party option without testing it.

Edit: If I pass my Airties to someone else, can they just use it? Or have to go back to Singtel to do some reset.

No info on the Mesh Extender AC2600 in this forum. You can safely assume it is as bad as the Airties and Asked for now. None of them are really good. Their main advantage is the support of SingTel TV. Other than that they are all lower end dual band mesh solution and tied to Singtel for firmware updates.

If you do not have SingTel TV, or your SingTel TV box is connected to the ONR, you can safely use other mesh solution like Asus, Netgear and TP-Link.

If you need to connect your SingTel TV box to the mesh node, you can consider Netgear.

Airties and Askey should be usable by other ISP users by connecting them to the main router. But you can not upgrade the FW if you are not in Singtel network.

I just changed my ISP to Singtel and they are still giving free Mesh Extender AC2600 calls v2.

In term of specs, it is only supporting WI-FI 4 protocol, not the latest WI-FI 6!!!

So you can imagine the speed of connectivity.

They are many of this mesh selling at Carousell, I think it is no good, if not why still selling??

It supports WiFi 5. The range and performance is (way) better than AC plus. Good enough for most users I feel (WFH, multiple devices, non competitive gaming...). I got a WiFi 6 router but no WiFi 6 devices so I don't benefit much.

For sure SingTel Mesh Extender AC2600 (and SingTel Mesh Router AC1900) will be better SingTel AC Plus which IMHO is the worst free router given by ISPs since 2014.

I am still using my free SingTel Mesh Router as an AP. On the other hand the free SingTel AC Plus was put aside after one or two days of use back in 2018.

The issue reported in this forum seems to be more focus on the mesh solution where you get two SingTel Mesh Extenders (eg: free for the 2Gbps plan, or you can buy from SingTel at S$15 per month). In that case I think it is pretty bad. The 2Gbps is not a good plan. Then S$15 per month can get you much better mesh solutions.

I was using 4 Airties 4930 at home. Main one near ONR, the other 3 in the 3 bedrooms. Now recontract and given 2 addtional Mesh Extender AC2600 v2, question is can they all work together to cover bigger area and how to do that... Do they have different SSID? Thanks for any reply

I assume that you have LAN ports in the rooms in this case. What is the problem with the current 4 Airties? It should be good enough for you.

You can try replace two of the 4930 with the Mesh Extender AC2600 (say one in living room and one in master room) to see if you have better coverage than the Airties.

It is probably better to use two SSIDs. You can always try to single SSID to see how it goes.

Hi, thanks for the reply.. Nothing wrong with the Airties but just that since the two newer one came, might as well use them since they are supposed to be better. Can I use all 6 together instead? My place is not very big, but why not make use of all, I thought.

If they have two different SSIDs, will our devices moving from one room to say the living room need to physically change SSID? This part I am not so clear. Thanks.

More nodes may introduce more interferences which will actually make the wireless performance worse.

If you use dual SSID then most likely you have to manually switch SSID.

Hi. Thanks for the advice.
Since the 4 Airties still served me well, I have decided to leave them alone and sell away the new singtel mesh extenders.

If nothing is broken, why bother. Thanks again.

Hi, understand you are using 2 pair of Airties. Hope to get your input on this.

I now have a pair of Airties 4930. I have several corners in my house where the D/L speed is bad. I am considering getting another similar pair like what you currently have. Just curious - as each pair of Airties come with separated SSID how did you configure the 2 added Airties so it becomes one network? ( I assume that currently you are not manually switching between the 2 SSIDS. Thanks!

can mesh them together... press the button (WPS) of main... and press the button of the 3rd unit... they will connect up

I suppose the "main" Airties is the one linked directly by cable to ONR? The "3rd unit" is either one from the newly added Airties?

Hi, I found this documentation @ https://www.singtel.com/content/dam/singtel/Addons/wifi-mesh/wifi-mesh-faqs.pdf.

Q. How should I set up the WiFi Mesh? A. Units in the dual pack are already pre-paired. To add on additional single pack units, press the WPS button on any of the dual pack unit for 2 to 3 seconds, followed by pressing the WPS button on the add-on unit for 2 to 3 seconds. Do keep the WPS pairing between the units within 60 seconds. The WPS process will end in 2 minutes or less. Alternatively, refer to the Quick Installation Guide provided in the box for more detailed steps.

Thanks anyways!

Thanks to all the friends here who had replied. Unfortunately, I've sold the extra mesh extenders but useful info nonetherless. Good day, gentlemen.

yes exactly.

but hor 4920 cannot mix with 4930 (just as side information)

so you must get the white 4930

good point, and that is where the art of mesh placement is important (since they usually use the same channel).

i'm lazy, so i use APs with manually set channels to reduce interference/overlap. perhaps my setup is sub-optimal, but so far, no one has complained about lack of speed and coverage hahaha

Not true ... my 4x 4930 is working fine with 2x 4920. Only shortcoming is that the 4920 will show up without the transfer speed in the airties app. In fact, I do have 6x 4930 but somehow did not work as well as current 4x4930 and 2x4920 ... probably because latter is separated in 2.4 and 5g ?

These airties are so dirt cheap now when used on carousell and will be a good upgrade into mesh if not already having having one.

Cheers.
