If Singapore is committed to Green initiative then why the heck are they taxing EV and not further on petrol cars? This does not make sense no matter how i try to see from their perspective of ''wanting SG to go green''.

In fact i would argue, some sort of a small rebate should be given for EVs in order to start phrasing out petrol cars over the years and some added tax for petrol cars. This would signify to the industry what type of cars the Govt is expecting to see and willing to commit to as well as a clear direction for business and car purchasers alike.

Sure the infra is unable to support full fledged switch overs currently but as we start getting batch 1, infra should be able to support a small subsection initially then slowly ramp up progressively as more and more batches comes in.

Right now i have no idea what's going on in their heads. It's almost like the Govt is having some sort of internal turmoil about this and regretting wanting to go green or sth.

I think once the population of EVs become significant enough, they sure up the price to charge one la.

Got money to earn who don't want?

As most of us should already know by now, owning a car in Singapore goes beyond just the purchase price of the car. Even if we assume that the Model 3 doesn’t break down over the next 10 years and requires minimal maintenance, we still need to consider road tax, fuel, parking & ERP.

Road Tax: As stated by Tesla, the road tax for the Model 3 will be $2,926. This is much more expensive compared to other vehicles on the road. In contrast, the Audi A4 has a road tax of $1,194 a year, which is more than 50% lower. Do note however that this will increase in 2023 once the additional road tax cost for EV is included.

While the first year is inclusive in the cost of the car, over the next 9 years, this will add up to a further $26,334.
For people who can afford tesla, these are petty change to them :o

I think worse case is forget to charge the day before. Tomorrow morning go work left little to no battery.

how?

ICE go petrol station 10mins in and out full tank and paid
That has always been the biggest problem for EVs. You can't exactly "hotload" EVs short of changing the batteries itself.

please dont flip prata

pls share where you get 40l full tank less than 100

typical sedan is about 43/45l? 95 now at $3. So it’s about $130 before discount. even with 21% discount it’s still around $103
Assuming 40L, Sinopec discount is 24% so you can get 40L at less than $100.

Once on the road, having lesser ICE vechicle and less fuel duties, I am sure govt will come out with some form of tax for EVs. Dont worry about it, the best decision is impose a fee or a tax to any problems....
Not yet. Government also not stupid. They will wait for a mass adoption first, then one shot lup you all good good with all the new and additional taxes.

so I rely on ICE first since its proven and reliable somewhat over so many years now
Servicing of ev not easy for those parts that need to be replaced
Not v easy feat so maybe near future will know if servicing is exp or cheap
