thanks! but will be buying brand new.
Brand new remastered Aeron is mostly plastic compared to the old Classic Aeron version which is mostly metal and most reviewers see it as a disadvantage in terms of quality/longevity, not to mention Classic has unlimited tilt lock v.s. Remastered (N fixed positions) I bought a used Classic for that very reason and am in the process of refurbishing it. I used alcohol wipes on the whole chair and blew out all the dust with a electric air blower. Thankfully the mesh on mine is still quite firm and all that needs replacing is the casters/lumbar support/seat foam insert. All can be found on Amazon for a total of less than $100 incl. shipping. Am looking to remove the seat pan and gently wash it before I install the seat foam insert. Even if the mesh gives out someday I can probably still find replacements. The effort and cost that goes into cleaning/replacing parts is totally worth it for the comfort and support I'm getting now.
Also, some additional thoughts on buying mesh chairs:
- seat mesh will definitely get dirty so the seat pan needs to be modular (easily removed) for convenience of cleaning
- you have to be conscious of the clothing you're wearing while using the chair - no jeans w/ metal studs or anything sharp/abrasive that could damage the mesh
- casters defo need to be replaced if buying 2nd hand, the amount of hair and gunk accumulated by previous owner is horrendous and extremely hard to remove. I bet even the 2nd hand scalpers on Carou don't clean out the casters for their buyers so you're better off trying to score your own good deals.
- get an electric air blower, it's your best bet for long term quick cleaning of the mesh. Can be used to clean laptop fans/PC and anything else that gets dusty easily in hard-to-reach places.
