Are you okay to stay underpaid (according to benchmarks) for a few years to clock up experience?

If you are given alot of opportunities and responsibilities in a new industry compare to working in FAANG or Banks (like JPM / SCB / DBS)

the current industry is twisted. They pay you base on what you received in your last role not base on how much that position is worth.

And your loyalty is not rewarded. You can work in the current position for 10 years but new comer get more salary than you.

The only way to get more salary is treat each company as a stepping stone.

I got massive pay cut.
Now apply job, see your current salary not your ex coy salary.
Sigh...

I am almost fell into the same trap offered by recruitment agency. I argued why is the salary offered less than previous or no difference from current? there is no incentive to change company if that is the offered salary.

I choose to reject the job offer and by a stroke of luck, a new company offered and gave 50% more than what the recruitment agency offered.

Use the benchmarks and don't be afraid to go to your boss to ask for more pay. I did it before..successfully. Even if you did not get what you one, at least you have tried.

Planning to do that in next review
Let me give you a tip. If you want to get a better outcome, don't do that during the next review, do it BEFORE the next review. For eg, if the next review is March, do it by January. The reason being during review, the timeline is very short for management to adjust and make changes as the budget is more or less cast in stone. So you have to bring this up BEFORE the next review.

actually i realised.

dont disclose salary. if you give. not necessarily they offer you a position
but will definitely use it as a reason to cut your pay. just act like you dont care. thing is when you're desperate, it brings advantage for the HR to cut you.
