I believe Elon Musk has other plans for Twitter. This is just a start.
Anyway, I read Twitter has 7500 employees and average salary is around 100,000.
If 1/2 of that, the reduction is about $375 million.

What Elon M is more concern is the verified users. It is reported that there are 400,000 verified users.
If everyone pays, charging $8 per month only get about $40 million.
I believe he is more interested to leverage on the "inflated users".
