Local stores aren't selling it seems.. The black version is on Taobao for SGD70ish (excl. shipping) but also available in both black and white in Malaysia for SGD130ish

Why not go audit edifier s350db speakers if there are any difference for you?

Personally I feel nowadays china brand is very value for money, and sound engineering has improved a lot for pc speakers compare to 10/20 years ago. I know my old altec 2.1, JBL creatures etc used to distort and "rattle" a lot.

Around 1K: Klipsch The Fives, Elipson Prestige Facet 6B.
Cheap and good: Creative T40 Series II. Used this pair before I dabbled in audiophile stuff. It's pretty good for its price.

Don't know about those Edifier, Swan, Kanto etc.

Never really found anything like that tbh, went from swan d1010 to Eris 4.5 now using Q Acoustics 3010i, gotta use some eq or usb dac to manipulate the bass. Straight out of the box experience with smaller footprint bookshelf generally doesn't really have much bass. Probably have to consider adding a small subwoofer. Those 6" or 8" is enough for desktop usage.

Heard Edifier S2000 MKiii has good bass, but it's not really that compact, but if your desk have the space for it can consider.

Yup, actually even larger bookshelves and even floorstanders might not necessarily have enough bass. My previous bookshelves Triangle Comete 40th was nearly as large as the Edifier S2000, but well, the bass was really spare.

So I went to listen to a bunch of active speakers under $1.2K to help someone decide on a pair of active speakers. Let me share my brief and quick impressions of them.

Elac Debut Connex ($600+)

The smallest out of all that I listened. It's surprisingly fun to listen to with lots of rhythmic drive. The imaging and soundstage are very good even when I was listening literally less than 20 cm away from them. They would probably make great desktop speakers, but bass amount is predictably disappointing and need a sub to support.

Triangle BR02BT and BR03BT ($800+, $1000+)

Great versions of Triangle mass market speakers. These are larger and you would need more space for the sound to breathe, especially the BR03BT where you should ideally have almost 1 m listening distance, so BR02BT is more practical for desktop use. The signature velvety mid-range that Triangle is known for was present. Female vocals sound so beautiful with these two, but their frequency response dropped high and as a result acoustic instruments sound rather artificial. Definitely need sub for these two.

Q Acoustic M20 ($800+)

Wow! They were just released this year, but these are serious speakers that punch way above their price. Very good balanced sound with good imaging even at near field around 30-50 cm away. Vocals do not sound as velvety as Triangle but the overall presentation was much more coherent and realistic, though it's slightly laidback. Bass amount is healthy and I think it's just about right, but could still benefit from a sub for movie and gaming purpose.

Klipsch The Fives ($1000)

My usual recommendation for people looking for a pair of actives up to $1000. Their sound is decidedly more mass market; they are not aiming for accurate reproduction of acoustic instruments instead music sound like they are coming from another amplified speakers. These are definitely not for audiophile purists but would satisfy most people moving up from soundbars. Has significant amount of punchy bass and I don't think these need any sub at all. Great for pop and rock music, gaming and movies. Steer away though if you like music with acoustic instruments.

Elipson Prestige Facet 6B BT ($1200)

These are really seriously good sounding pair of speakers. The description I used for Q Acoustic M20 applies to this pair also but with livelier presentation and bass amount that rivals The Fives. It's pricey, but its equally good for music and movies.

Depend on your budget. You can go very fancy and buy yourself a pair of Phantom II or Pearl Akoya.

Or you can get a pair that I mentioned in above post for a more reasonable price. The Fives or Facet 6B should make awesome desktop speakers.

Below $500 pretty much all are pretty much not different in quality so just get whatever is cheapest you can get. I checked out Klipsch ProMedia Heritage, would rather pay twice the price for Fives anytime.

A quick look at my new desktop amplifier for use with my Desktop PC/PS5
SVS Prime Wireless Pro Soundbase.

Previously, I was using a cheap USB power amplifier from AliExpress while looking for a perfect amplifier to drive my speakers at my PC/desktop 2.1 System. SVS released this interesting product which suits me over Bluesound Powernode.
  • Play-Fi supported
  • Chromecast built-in
  • Spotify Connect
I do use Chromecast a lot because I use Youtube Music app mainly for my music. I also has subscription to Spotify which works flawlessly with this unit. more on that later.

How I connect the system is using HDMI. PC > Monitor (TV LG C2 42") > SVS Soundbase (HDMI eARC) > Speakers ( ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 + 10" Stark Sound Subwoofer)

QS3527N.png

The unit has an OLED screen, 6 pre-set buttons and 2 large dials. One for Source selection, the other for volume control.

Inputs
  • HDMI eARC
  • 2x RCA (1x3.5mm)
  • Ethernet In/Out
  • Optical In
  • IR in for IR extension
  • Wifi and Bluetooth (AptX/AAC)
Outputs
  • 300W (2x 150W) speaker amplifier to 4Ω load.
  • Subwoofer out
  • Line Out
  • USB Service port (for USB powered accessories)
It also includes a useful Remote Control which the previous version did not.
FRmp8FO.png

Pros
  • Clean amplifier, excellent dynamics and rich sound
  • Plenty Loud. At 1/3 volume, I am already enjoying music at about 75dB
  • Effortless music streaming with Play-Fi. Much better audio quality than Bluetooth.
  • Takes 2-3 sec from to start streaming from Spotify Connect/Play-Fi
  • Takes 5-7 sec to stream through Chromecast from Youtube Music App to stream
  • Can use "Hey Google" voice command to control the unit through my Google Nest Mini
  • Has 6 shortcuts, able to shortcut to my frequent Spotify Playlist and play with click of a button. Or can use shortcut to change input.
  • Can display Song Title and Artist name on its OLED display
  • HDMI eARC switch on, off with my PC/TV
ukdW9Ps.png

Cons
  • No power button. Only stand-by after idle for 20 minutes. Sometimes, accidently hit the dial and it switches on with no way to force it to standby unless pulling the power plug
  • No bass management for subwoofer, expect you to manage bass through subwoofer instead.
  • No EQ at all - I really wish I could use some kind of EQ
  • No High-pass Filter when connected to Speakers with a Subwoofer. No Low-pass filter for Subwoofer. Hard to integrate subwoofer.
  • No Room Correction system like in DVRs (for this price, it would be a nice feature but not a must)
Luckily I use this amp mostly with my Desktop thus I can use REW on desktop to get room correction done and use PEACE parametric EQ to apply Room Correction.

I have also used the RCA-in to listen to my Records. My Pro-Ject Turntable has a built-in Phono Pre-amp so I do not need one built into the Soundbase. The amp works great with Vinyl too.

Conclusion
It is a fantastic integrated amplifier for a Soundbar replacement but not a full AVR. It is also small and conspicuous thus it works great for Desktop use. I really enjoy using the SVS Prime Wireless Soundbase Pro. I have been listening to more music since streaming to the Soundbase is effortless. I can use Google Voice Assistance or a button press on my Phone to stream Audio. I do not have to turn on my PC. Play-Fi app has huge improvements and it now supports Gap-less playback. Also, the annoying SVS Logo blue light can be switched off all together. Great for night time use! Is it worth $1.1k price I paid for it? Absolutely. I would take Soundbase Pro over Bluesound Powernode anyday.

Seems like pretty value for money and no other streaming amplifier at this price range. The nearest competitors are Cabasse Abyss and Nad C700, but they are twice the price.

Your desktop/laptop is essentially a very large streamer, Spotify and Tidal Connect works with it, so to be honest can get just simpler integrated amplifier for desktop use. I saw the demo set for the Missions 770X, looks compact and affordable.
