Can optimise further with this wired setup:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmjP4mMSG_m6rUhuFIIHIWwgDLiQ?e=ojItWU
First connect ONT to WAN port of AX58U placed in living room as router.

Next connect LAN port of AX58U to WAN port of AX6000 placed in bedroom using the second LAN point in the living room. At the patch panel connect the living room port to the bedroom port using short ethernet cable for ethernet backhaul. Alternatively connect to your switch if you need ethernet connection to all rooms.

The reason for using AX6000 as node is because bedrooms typically have heavier wifi usage compared to living room. Overall wifi performance will be better.
Main router should have the most powerful processor as it needs to process every network packets going thru the internet "In and Out" from all your connected devices.

btw AX58U is a low end router...

Is it worth choosing Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 over RT-AX88U?

Will the WiFi coverage of the GT-AX6000 be more slightly better compared to RT-AX88U? Because ultimately that's my goal..

I don't think I would require more than 4 Lan ports as well.. Hmm..
U need a Tri band router.

Tri-band is very necessary when you have >20 newer devices connected to the router... you can manage the connection to distribution load via 2x 5Ghz path and 1x 2.4Ghz path... not necessary for mesh setup... Asus do support Wifi/Ethernet mesh setup i read.

i assume Qualcomm chip is considered highest end in comm chipset tech.
i come from idea that Firmware can change (eg. to DDWRT?), hardware cannot change unless buy new

Due to much higher price of Asus with it Broadcom chipset and hardly any dualband, i alway give it a miss.

Just wondering which router are you using? High-end Qualcomm CPU and tri-band, if you talk about local version, then you are more talking about highed end triband mesh system like Linksys MX4200 and Netgear Orbi RBK750/850. Xiaomi AX9000 local version is one of the cheaper ones out there. But I believe none of them are running DD-WRT.

The new generation of dual band AX routers can certanily handle 20+ devices. And we do not need fast quad-core 64bit ARM CPU like Broadcomm BCM49408 (RT-AX88U) or BCM4908 (RT-AX86U) or BCM4912 (GT-AX6000) or high end Qualcomm CPUs (eg: RT-AX89X).

Just the lower end BCM6750 will do (eg: RT-AX58U/82U).

As mentioned I agree on the higher end Qualcomm may have an edge. But there is no need to go tri-band unless you want to use wireless backhaul.

for a power user like you, you need a very high end router. :) :)

for most people, like 99.99% of us, the main router just simply send out and receive data from internet. even those 10 year old 1Gbps router can already do the work well :)

interested in router i am using?
Previously i used to run dlink825 on ddwrt, den i bought a linksys ea8500 to run ddwrt den a WIFI5 router (listed on its site support 100 connected wifi devices) with stock firmware attracted me.

now i proceed to buy it next WIFI6 router (listed on ite site supporting 200 connected wifi devices) on stock firmware. OFDMA available on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

Hi guys what do u think of the setup below. Just moved in to my 4bedroom flat.
I am on 2 x 1GBps MyRepublic (the gaming one, it it makes any difference), no static IP.

Problems:
  • Would love to have all devices connected in one network. Hence thinking of the setup below.
  • My AX11000 ROG, is extremely terrible would love to have some kind of a fix for this nonsense. I get 200mbps max speed on ANY WiFi. Even when I am right beside the router.
    • Tried playing around with the settings, default settings Wifi sucks.
    • QoS off, Wifi still sucks.
    • Tried playing around with channels, wifi still sucks.
    • Tried Merlin firmware and official firmware, wifi still sucks.

Current setup:
First WAN connection
  • ONT > DB Box LAN to Office > Asus AX55 connected via WAN > Office/Gaming PC and Work laptop connected via LAN.
  • Asus AX55 Wifi radio signals are off.
Second WAN connection
  • ONT > Netgear Nighthawk XR500 > Wifi to dining/living room.
  • ONT > Netgear Nighthawk XR500 > DB Box LAN to Master Bedroom > AX11000 ROG in AP mode.

Future setup:
  • ONT > Dual WAN Router (TP-Link ER605) with load balancing > DB Box to LAN to ports below:
  • AX11000 Rog in living room emitting Wifi (AP Mode)
  • XR500 in master bedroom emitting Wifi (AP Mode)
  • Unmanaged switch in my office to my Gaming/Office PC and Work laptop.

Maybe your ROG AX11000 is spoiled if the Wifi can not get above 200Mbps. Even the default should give you good results. Have you tested the wired performance first to rule out cable issues?

Actually if your ROG AX11000 is not spoiled, it already supports Dual WAN Load balancing. But you do need to add static IP (just one static IP will do) for that to work based on the reports from MyRepublic threads.

Thanks for your input xiaofan. Appreciate it.
Yeah, no cable issues. works fine on LAN. I really hope its not my router being faulty as I bought it on carousell(unopened) at a good price. Dont know how I can proceed with warranty/RMI etc.
Till this day Im still trying different firmwares to see if it could be a firmware issue.

And yes, I do realise it has a dual-wan and it very unstable when I tried it. It works even without having a static IP for me when I tried it, but it was really unstable.

Also, do u think my future setup is feasible?

firmware issue is not possible. asus or any other good manufacturers will make sure that the firmware is usable when it leave factory. future firmware updates are normally to tackle minor problems or bring in new feature.

have you check the your test device? can it do better with other APs?

i am no power user, I explain fundamentally router ability to process high number of network packets (concurrently) affect internet experiences for all connected devices needing connection to the internet even when there is no high data transfer.... eg. one user running bittorrent can affect everybody even thought the bittorrent application just transferring 100Mbps on a 500Mbps network.

Pardon me if i sound too technical. Technical is the fundamental to build up upon Good Tech Implementation.

I try help okay?

Let me focus here since your AX10000ROG is here
- Second WAN connection "ONT > XR500 > Wire > AX11000" seems not right.

Try connect ONT directly to AX11000's WAN port and do speedtest here.... ensure in AX11000 setting the wifi width is 80/160Mhz. Turn off AX55 and XR500 while doing speedtest now. kindly check what wifi client u using?

not a good idea to promo any brand here.

normally just go for latest chipset and reputable manufacturer will do,

However I do prefer Taiwanese brand and made in taiwan product..

I think the same for Asus, if buy Asus, ensure it is manufactured for Taiwanese Market and not China Market... there is different in Security Suite offering... can google if really interested to find out more.

there is nothing wrong here. this is a 1Gbps link and anarcho has already clarified that it is working.

Turns out the two devices I was checking my speeds with are old and are somehow "capping" my speeds on my AX11000. My bad guys.

Gonna try out Dual-WAN(with load balancing) again on my AX11000 hopefully it works out well this time. Apparently all I have to do is make sure both of the WAN has the same DNS server and it will work better.

Setup im going to try:
  • ONT > WAN1 & WAN2 > to Asus AX11000 (Dual-WAN Load Balancing)
  • Asus AX11000 > DB BOX LAN > PS4 in living room
  • Asus AX11000 > DB BOX LAN > Office > Switch > PC and Work Computer
  • Asus AXA1100 > Wifi for living/dining room
  • Asus AX11000 > DB Box LAN > Master Bedroom LAN > XR500 > Wifi in Bedroom

can asus handover to netgear seamlessly? if not, you have to manually switch AP if you walk from living room to bedroom, else your handphone will still lock on to ax11000. (most likely ax11000 can already serve you bedroom well because of the range boost feature)

Wish this was the case but no. The AX11000 pretty much loses connectivity when I am lying down in bed. Probably due to the wall beams. Hence, why I did another router in my bedroom.

I am hoping that it will automatically disconnect from my AX11000 when the signal is low enough. (I think you can set it so that it disconnects after it goes past a certain db) and the phone will be smart enough to look for another AP and connect via my XR500. So far that's been the case so I dont think it will be an issue.

If the Dual-WAN feature on the Asus AX11000 is still crap I'll just look at the ER605 router and go for the initial setup that I wanted.

看来说了半天。。。我还是没机会认识他提到那采用高通晶片的 ”顶级“ 路由器。

我还满是期待的。但就给他的 “不要为路由器品牌打广告、偏袒” 的理由给打发了。嗨。。。失望! :ROFLMAO:

经常都有人在forum提及路由器品牌,难道就是打广告或偏袒吗?Forum 不是应该分享吗?

我想使用DD-WRT的 @hwzlite 大哥也很想知道。

Hi everyone, wanted to get some advice on upgrading my home network.

I am currently using a single AX55 in the study room, with multiple smart devices connected to it.
I noticed the signal is not so good near the kitchen end and further inside the MBR.

Saw a few recommendations to put a better router into DB box, turn off the WiFi, and set up an AIMesh outside with another 2 devices (since I already have the AX55).

Wanted to see if there are any recommendations for the respective devices. Or suggestions for the layout.
- Have LAN ports in every room
- Study room is where my work devices are so going to connect via LAN
- Planning to use LAN for my SMART TV / TV Box out in the living room
