Just setup SingTel with the Nokia G-240G-E ONR today. Anyone know how to setup SMB for the usb device on the ONR? Currently only see FTP. Would like to allow streaming for my harddisk on my Smart TV

I do not have the SIngtel ONR but it is quite a basic router. If you do not see such an option in the menu, then that means there is no such functionality.

hi all.

i recently signed a 2 year contract for the 1gbps plan with the ONR and the Askey wifi 6 device. so i've been getting these packet loss/spikes whenever I game (mainly dota) on WIFI, even when my pc close to the router. all other uses (netflix, net surfing) seems to work fine and speed is quite good.

any advice how can i improve this situation? or would changing the router to ASUS RT-AX86U work?

many thanks for the help in advance.

Is it possible for you not to use WiFi and used wired connection for gaming?

I am not into gaming myself but wireless connection will always have some latency issues, even with a better like RT-AX86U.

You have to talk to SingTel to get good recontract deals.

A few people reported the following recontract deal.
S$40.40 per month, free Wi-Fi 6 router or mesh node.
And we have wait til totally OUT of contract right? I had tried after the 21st month, nothing, only offered those already can see online...

Hi Shifus, would like to consult you guys on the Mesh setup for a new home. Would this planned connection work?

Singtel ONT/ONR in DB Box > Straight to living room LAN 1 > Main router placed at living room Lan 1 > LAN to living room Lan 2 > DB Box living room 2 port > Ethernet Switch > out to DB Box Bedroom 1/2/3 Lan

The goal is to avoid placing any router in DB box, seek your pro advice please.

I am using ONT (since Feb 2012). I replaced my older Ecrisson ONT to a ZTE ONT back in 2018.

I do not recommend new users to go with Singtel as Singtel only offers ONR to new users and no longer entertains bridging request. That being said, if your requirement is basic, then SIngtel ONR may still be okay.

Reference: read my first here:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singapore-isp-comparisons.6665380/

1) For existing users of any ISPs: no switching of ISP unless if you got issues or you got very good offers from the other ISPs.

2) Recommendation for new sign-up: M1 or Starhub 500Mbps or 1Gbps plan; avoid Singtel 1Gbps/2Gbps plan becuase of ONR. Singtel no longer entertains bridging request for 1Gbps plan since March 2022. Singtel 2Gbps plan will not allow ONR bridging at all.

Number 1 plan to avoid is Singtel 2Gbps plan which is no better than Singtel 1Gbps plan for 99% of the use cases.
Can i check if the ZTE ONT is the latest singtel provided ONT model in the market ? if we re-contract the 1GBs , can we replace a new ONT {i am using an ALU ONT) or we have to use the existing one ? was wondering if the ONT is quite old, will it affect the performance of the connection. Thks

Yes, ZTE is the latest one from Singtel.

No, you can not replace the ONT by yourself. And ONT life span is very long. Unless you encounter into issues it will still be okay. If you encounter issues or if you really want to change, you can get one to one replacement from Singtel. Just go to SERV+ or designated Singtel shops. It is said ALU or Ecrisson ONT may have a bit better performance than ZTE in terms of bufferbloat. But I do not feel the difference of my ZTE ONT with my older Ecrisson ONT.

For ONT replacement, bring the following.

ONT and its power adapter
Fibre patch cord
your NRIC/identification card1

Managed to recontract with the S$40.40 offer too.

Hope my ZTE ONT can last.

Given the AirTies 4960R.

Hi, my mom subscribed to Singtel since 2012 and we currently still have ZTE ONT. I'm old enough to understand these things now and recently started looking through our bills. I realized she hasn't recontract in months and we were paying the usual price of $49.90.

I'm planning to recontract and try to get the a better deal but I just want to clarify some stuff cause I'm quite new to this.

If I contact via whatsapp, how will the contract be sent? Do I need to specify that I don't want to change the ONT? If WiFi 6 router is included, do I go collect myself or something?

Hi all,
I have 1gb plan and Aztech 7003 router (super old) and 1 pair of askey AP5100W wifi mesh.
My wifi speed is around 200Mbps down and up. Didn't try wired as don't have spare ethernet cable. I don't think this is supposed to be normal for 1Gbps plan right? Could this be due to my old router/ethernet cable or hardware?

Any advice is appreciated!

They will request for email to send the contract over.
You can request to not change since as @xiaofan mentioned, long time users should be able to stay on ONT.
Collection of routers if applicable most likely will be self collection, can try requesting it to be send over too, no harm asking.

S$49.90 is the right price (or maybe a bit higher now due to GST increase this year) for out of contract old 1Gbps plan (usually S$39.90 per month within contract and then S$49.90 per month out of contract).

As mentioned by a few others in recent reports, the current recontract offer you can get from Singtel is at S$40.40 per month with free Wifi 6 router/AP (Airties 4960R router for ONT user, Askey Wifi 6 mesh node for ONR user).

For reontract done through WhatsApp, the contract will be attached in the WhatsApp chat, and it will be sent by email as well.

You can continue using your ZTE ONT. Just in case if they ask you if you want to upgrade to ONR, reject such "offer".

For the free router, you will have to collect from +SERV Orchard Central.

What is your wireless device used in the test? Are you using wireless backhaul or Ethernet backhaul between the two AP5100W mesh nodes?

For your wifi 5 router, Typical Wifi 5 1x1 device will be around 200Mbps. Typical wifi 5 2x2 device may be at 300Mbps to 500Mbps with your main AP5100W node. If you use wireless backhaul, the speed of your main AP5100W will get affected as well.

But you do need to test wired speed first before troubleshooting the wireless speed.

Hi, i'm using wireless between the 2 mesh nodes.

Sure, i will get an ethernet cable to test out the speed and revert back.

But if i get a new router will the speed be faster?
