Just wanna check - any good cards for wedding/proposal ring purchase? Will go for a miles card but I am always been a cashback person.

And a wedding ring usually goes up to 5k~

Checked out some miles card, but saw some only ahve 1.5miles while some are 4 miles? And some have their own conversion as well. Much more confusing.

Does miles card also have selected categories?

tbh miles game has to be consistently played.

No point just getting a miles card just for one-off purchase and don't use it anymore.

you will never earn enough miles to redeem anything. then any perk you get will end up meaningless.

So do you plan to use it consistently?

That's not a large expense for a wedding ring, so you may not be spending enough to make an air miles card worth it.

You're looking at UOB Absolute Amex or Amex True Cashback + GST refund if the purchaser is not a resident.

Get multiple cash back card, and split the payments across them based on their min spend requirements. Most merchants would be happy to help you split it out, given it is a large purchase.

Could you give details on how exactly to do this with a S$5,000 wedding ring?

Sign up for new cards with min spend in the first month, and split the 5k accordingly.

The usual would be spend 600 on UOB Evol, 600 on DBS Live Fresh, 800 on OCBC Frank, the others based on what promos you sign up for. Any amount left charge to Amex TCB.

You likely won't even pay the full 5k up front as most places take a deposit first. So you could split it over 2 months too

How are you going to tell the merchant to charge so you can put the first S$600 on the UOB Evol? How much cashback will be generated from this first part?

You literally tell the merchant in the store and ask if they can split it over multiple cards.

Check the respective cards TnCs, but should be between 20-25 for each of the usual cashback card for every 600/800 spend via paywave, and meeting the min spend.

So you tell the jewelry shop you want to split the payment over 5 cards. You show the UOB Evol from your phone and say you want to pay the first S$600 using Paywave and the UOB Evol on your phone. Then you repeat this for all the other cards.

How much cashback will be produced from the UOB Evol here?

Yes boss, we interested in the cashback generated.

Help him compute the cashback boss.

If one is unable to instantly know how much cashback a single $600 Evol phone paywave generates (which is $20 fyi), I think that person is better off just using flat cashback card instead.

😂 ya, same as if one doesn't know how to compute cashback or miles, don't chase it because likely won't be able to maximise or optimise it since there are certain things that needs to do (paywave vs online)

and also, if one everything also need to ask, then also no point chasing it. because some stuff need to decide on the spot, nobody to ask.

best stick to one. on average the return should be average.

That's 3.33% and worse than trying to make UOB ONE card work

Again, imho, you really need to learn how to optimise your spending for minimum-spend-high-earn-rate cashback cards.

If you're going to split payments across multiple cards at a jeweller, I have no idea why you'd wanna charge $600 to Evol. At most charge $250-$350.

Agree for a general use card if you have another 250-300 to charge which is for online spend. If not, the next best option is to have 1 600 bucks paywave transaction and max out the one paywave category (still better than flat rate cashback cards)

so... how you are going to allocate to cashback cards and be able to get up to S$5,000?
