https://seedly.sg/reviews/sim-only-mobile-plans/

I read with great interest Seedly's SIM only plan review. GOMO's the "most popular", "most reviewed", "highest rating". I'm happy with this telco and glad that I chose it. Singtel's rating is, on the other hand, pretty mediocre.

GOMO does have its weak spots such as no voice roaming and can't send SMS via roaming. These defects might be major for some people (perhaps client-facing professionals?) but they're minor to us.

I'm a typical middle class. At GOMO's current price point, I really don't have to struggle with M1's network over perhaps a 10 bucks discount. LOL!
Gomo cannot send u sms when you are overseas? Then jialat lei. How to get otp? Clients no problem one la. Now who use sms? All on messaging app already

can receive sms while roaming, just cannot send, so no worries about receiving OTP via SMS

LOL! You're only 99% right. Haha!

Last week, Ng Teng Fong hospital sent me an appointment SMS. I'm supposed to reply and send a "1" message back to confirm my appointment!

If I'm overseas, I probably have to Skype the hotline to confirm.

Sometime the ops ppl quite kuku. Why press 1 to confirm, 2 to change and 3 to cancel. **!

Just preset 1 to change, 2 to cancel. Never press anything means coming.

SMS is not 100% confirm/guarantee delivery (OR even guarantee timely delivery).

There is possibility that:

Although a SMS can be sent out -- but the receipent may not actually receive it at all, OR the receipent may receive the SMS a LONG time after it is sent out.
(got a few / various reasons but of course such cases don't occur often)

So (usually) SMS OTP has time limit & (should) give you the option to request resend of SMS OTP.

Then how to know if the receipent has received the SMS that is sent out?

Ans: Solicit a reply SMS.
If the recepient gives you a reply SMS -- then that indicates the recepient has received your SMS.

You may ask why not just send notification via mobile app & solicit a reply via the mobile app?

Ans: SMS can be sent & received -- WITHOUT the need for Internet access at all.

You can send a SMS to anyone & receive a SMS reply -- regardless whether the recepient's phone has WiFi or has mobile data access or not.
(In fact, you can send or receive SMS -- even if your phone is not a smartphone.)

If use mobile app to communicate; 100% means Internet access is a requirement + (SMS) recepient MUST have smartphone that cannot be too old -- since many/most mobile apps don't support Android or iOS version that is more than 4/5 yrs ago.

Of course nowadays, not every entity/party you engaged with will communicate w/ you via SMS -- so it's up to you to decide whether having the ability to reply / send out SMS is worth to have (when overseas).

Not true ... SMS are still used for OTP to approve transactions eg SimplyGo app to topup cards using credit card, also recently I purchased some packaged tours & was sent SMS OTP to proceed.

Can't believe I never knew about Gomo. 4G plan is cheap and perfect for huawei phone with no 5G coverage. Selected the plan yesterday evening, delivered 2pm this afternoon (right at the beginning of the time slot) and already immediately active. So far no issues with coverage and speed.

Has anyone successfully received sms otp when overseas? The gomo plan is NOT roaming, and sender is a local bank eg Uob/ocbc/Dbs?

For your first question, I asked support in the app for a voucher code for the $25 5G plan and got it in the end. I suggest you chat with a human CSO in the app and do this too.
Could I ask if you have the voucher code for the $25 5G plan. Thank u :)
