Recently recontracted to 2gbps under M1

I was already on M1 1gbps broadband but decided to switch to 2gbps (1+1) . Sales lady on the phone wasn't much of a help and figured I'd find a solution myself so here I am(lol). For 2gbps plans, will I be getting a 2nd ONT for the 2nd router or will it be connected through the existing ONT that I have? How about activation wise? Anyone with experience? Sales lady told me it would be automatic and was very vague about it.

A 2nd connection from the same ONT isn't very useful outside of specific use cases, what made you want to "upgrade" per se?

ahh I see I see thanks! the "upgrade" was just because 1x would be used for family and the 2nd would be routed into my room for lan on my devices

1Gbps is already plenty of bandwidth for a household, I'm not sure it's worth paying the extra for another connection.

Since both connection will be from a single GPON ONT, total bandwidth out of the ONT will be limited to 2.488 Gb/s download, and 1.244 Gb/s for upload.

If you still want to sub then by all means go ahead, but take note of the above pointers to avoid mismatched expectations of what the extra connection is capable of.

Edit: I see M1's 2Gbps plan is around $63 on their website, perhaps if you really want more bandwidth you can sign up 10Gbps with Starhub/myrepublic at very similar prices.
M1 might announce their own offering since Singtel/starhub/myrepublic have 10Gbps offerings.

I have a big family so I felt that the network was slowing down enough and it was just an additional $10 on my end since the bill is shared among family members to justify the "upgrade" for only my usage.

I read on the 10Gbps options but they're mostly till X date then they're back to 1Gpbs since it's a testing phase. Do you reckon 10Gbps will be a permanent option in the near future?

I'll try to push for this deal instead, you pay around the same and you get another router which you can setup as an additional AP.

Sounds like wireless congestion to me, but I can't really tell unless there's more info.
How is your network setup?
Is everything connected using wireless?
How many devices are connected to your router?
Do you experience the same slow down if you connect using ethernet cable connected to your router?

Likely, since gov mentioned 10Gbps to be the near future goal, but don't quote me.

what is your existing set up like? sounds like hardware wifi congestion to me.

As xonix mentioned, you can use Dual WAN Load Balancing to achieve single network if your router supports this function.

From the other thread you seem to use TP-Link Deco XE75, which will not support Dual WAN Load Balanding.

Or you can get low power mini PC with dual or quad 2.5G ports, then you can run OpenWRT or pfSense with good Dual WAN support. They will have better Dual WAN capability than the Asus GT-AX6000. Then you can still use your Deco XE75 as mesh (AP mode).

indeed I am just looking for simple network bridge function, not so much on load balancing.

example, the lan output of one router can flow to the other router without going through a big loop via internet

Unfortunately I do not know of any other method other than to put another router (Dual WAN capable) in front of your two TP-Link Deco XE75 (which serves two independent networks now).

It is not possible to just add a dumb switch to both of the router -- device connected to the switch will only get DHCP address from one of the router and can not really talk to each other.

There may be some other method -- but I believe extra hardware will be required in any case. Maybe others can help you better here.
