Day 2 - A Local Rendezvous
Singapore
The next day, I, at my parents' insistence, met with my close family friend’s son for a meal. He gave me a blank cheque to do whatever I want because he was apologetic about not being able to spend time with me on my birthday. So I decided to make him pay by making him bring me around the island to indulge in some local hawker delights!
First, he brought me to this random hawker centre in Ang Mo Kio for lunch and ordered some of my favourite dishes!
The duck rice (SGD5) was pretty yummy and I really loved the chilli sauce that was served beside it. However, I would much prefer yam rice over plain white rice when it comes to duck rice.
The Mee Hoon Kueh (SGD5) was quite disappointing and quite plain. I personally thought that this was a waste of calories.
The Char Kway Teow (SGD5) was super flavourful, with the noodles drunk with Wok Hey, and saturated with plenty of cockles! Yum!
Lastly, the Black Carrot Cake (SGD4) was pretty decent; adequately moist and decently flavoured, though it lacked that panache that separated decent dishes from the really great ones.
