How about standard chartered? They gives cash rebates
The cash rebates not bad. But then again, my target is to be able to redeem business class tickets in the shortest time possible. So priority is still to use cards that helps to accumulate frequent flyer miles faster

The rates are quite similar. Of course if you book through the likes of Agoda/Expedia/Booking.com, you get points too which can be accumulated and used to offset part of future bookings. But then again, I find is like unless you book a few k of hotel stay with these platforms, otherwise the points accumulated is really quite small. I think if want to utilise the free night stay with Prestige, more worth it to go for the better hotels ($400-600 per night kind).
If you go Australia for holiday, you will usually spend a few days in the city and rest of the holiday in the outskirts region right? So you can book hotel stay in the city and go for air bnb in the other regions. But of course if you are enrolled in certain hotel program (such as IHG, GHA, Accor or etc) it make sense to try and book their hotels and fully utilise the benefits. I have accor membership but then for my upcoming trip in Dec, Accor don’t really have good hotels in the destination I wanted to go. So I will use the Prestige one night free stay benefit for this instance.

I used to hold the prestige card but changed to amex platinum (one night free stay and bunch of other benefits). All good besides the hefty fees but so many merchants don't accept amex payment. that's perhaps the biggest pain.

Actually I dun really travel that much but then I beginning to find it torturous to travel by economy for any flights above 6 hours these days. So as much as possible I try to book / redeem biz class. Maybe I’m really getting old. Air travel is not really that enjoyable for me. I want to redeem biz class tickets for NY next year. Lol

Yup. Once you travelled by biz class, very hard to go back. Especially for longer flights.

I was considering the Amex Platinum Charge card and then decided not to take it after noticing they have restructured the rewards. It used to be $400 airline travel credits and now it is reduced to $200. While they have introduced entertainment credits and fashion credits, I just do not shop with Mr Porter for the fashion credits and not sure which service provider applies for the entertainment credits. The card gives access to Tower Club membership but I’m not that sure how often would I really go to Tower Club for entertainment. One of the best feature though is access to The Centurion lounge at airports. Centurion lounge is for sure better than most of the lounges under the Priority Pass membership.
And the annual fee is $1872. So I’m just doubtful how much of the rewards would I really utilise and in the end may not be getting the $1872 annual fee worth.

I think the 10x accelerator (and 5x above 16k) is still worth if u buy pp from THG leh! No?

I have the Amex Platinum (not the Platinum charge card) which gives me the 10x accelerator. So I do not need to go for the Platinum Charge card (it’s $1872 vs $324 in annual fee). Have been thinking whether to upgrade my Platinum card to the Platinum charge card. In the end I decided to stay put

It’s 10x above 16k and 20x for first $16k.
the miles conversion is also lower.. 400 Mr to 250 miles. Yes can accumulate very fast. 4 biz class tics to Europe for me every year lol.

Wah 4 biz class tickets to Europe every year??! 👍
So if spend 16k on watch with the Amex card, will get 320k points and this convert to KrisFlyer miles is 200k? I only use the 10x accelerator once to buy watch and can’t quite rem.

Update:
After using the calculator on the Amex website, spend $16,000 on watch at THG gets 100,000 MR points and this converts to 55,555 miles. And this is for the standard Platinum Card. For Platinum Charge card, it is 20x instead of 10x. This explains why the annual fee is so much higher for the Platinum Charge card compared to the standard platinum card.

If keep getting watches from THG, definitely worth. Cuz no other cards give the miles for luxury shopping that's as good as the Platinum Charge card. 1st 16k is 7.8 mpd and then subsequently is 3.9 mpd.

No not 320k points. It’s 200k points. So that’s 125k miles.

Yup the nerfing is quickly devaluing the Amex Plat charge. All the persnickety terms and conditions (e.g. $75 per half year for Mr Porter) take away from the "premium" branding... like you really think so many relatively well-to-do, presumably busy people have so much leisure to keep track of when they last bought something for a $75 rebate... Also highly dislike how you have to log into the app/ website to click buttons and "save" the benefits to your card, instead of them being readily available as a matter of course.

They've also removed the "hard" salary requirement wording on the application I think. Seems they are slowly but surely repositioning this card to a more mass market space.

There are many threads on how congested the Centurion lounges are in the US, until Amex introduced recent restrictions.

Never used the Tower Club benefit before - to me it sounds like a place for bored retirees but I could be wrong...

The Centurion card however is beyond the likes of me. Nothing from Amex in the space between Centurion and Plat charge, so I'll prob cancel my card after this year.

Yeah the most useful benefit is the air travel credits but that has been reduced. There are $400 overseas and local dining credits but the restaurants may not always be to your liking. Then there is lifestyle and entertainment credits, not sure how much I will use those. The 10x accelerator is probably one of the best benefits for the card but I can stick to my current membership to have that even if it is not 20x for the first $16,000 spent at 10x accelerator program partners. Complimentary parking at Great World City during weekends is good but then doesn’t cost that much to park there in any case. Just saw that they have complimentary Como C5 membership for 12 months (seems like it is a new perk). Previously it was stated that the qualifying income to apply for it is 200k per annum but they remove this requirement it seems.

I used the $200 overseas credit - booked a restaurant in Tokyo through Pocket Concierge and the credits were automatically reflected in the bill. Haven't tried the sg one, some ok restaurants on the list. Will also try to make use of the Grand Cru wines credit.

Yup the Como C5 benefits are new. Will really depend on one's (or the wife's) lifestyle. I'm not the shop at Club 21 type... and the hotel benefits are ok, but nothing to shout about imho

Agree the 20x points are most relevant for those in this thread... haha

Using lifestyle credit to buy wines is the best, $600 worth of wine and you only pay $200. The supplies I bought could last a few months if you are a semi regular wine drinker at home. The massage spa credits not worth: mainly overpriced spas at hotel. Money on wines is better.

I don’t drink much wine at home unfortunately. Only occasionally that one or two glass when dining outside. i probably only drink one to two bottles at home in a year max. So will be under utilised for me for this particular lifestyle credit. The spas not of much use too. I ever use the voucher from Amex for a half priced spa session and it ended up with them pressuring me to buy spa package from them.
