[GPGT] Japan Oct 2023, 15 days trip to Tohoku, Kanto and Chubu region

Hello, fellow Japan lovers (be it food, culture or documentary). I just returned from my trip, and I would like to share about my trip here because only edmwers are my only friends.

Before this trip, I had visited these prefectures in various seasons.

On this trip, I will be visiting the region that I have yet to step foot into, visiting new prefectures, and re-exploring the prefectures that I have been to.

In Dec 2020, I took up the KrisFlyer Bonus Miles Conversion Campaign, which allows me to earn 15% more miles when I convert, and I intended to use it for this Oct trip when the border re-opens. However, SIA devalued the KrisFlyer miles in Jul 2022, and I had to redeem more miles, which ended up about the same.

Departure night
I took the redeye flight to Haneda airport. This is my first time taking a business-class flight. The SilverKris lounge at T3 was relatively crowded in the evening, and the food choices were similar to the Priority Pass lounges I visited at Changi Airport before COVID-19. I think it is only the drinks option that is better than the Priority Pass lounge.

Day 1

As I had my meal in the lounge, I requested for my flight meal to be served in the morning instead.

Chosen the lobster thermidor with fondant potato and buttered seasonal vegetables.

After I jiak finished my meal, I looked out of the widow and saw this familiar mountain.

After I cleared the custom, I chiong to the JR East Travel Service Center at Haneda Intl Airport Terminal 3 to exchange my 14-day JR pass. But the queue was so long, likely 1.5 ~ 2 hours if I were to queue. So I used my Suica (non-tourist version) and chiong to JR East Travel Service Center @ Tokyo Station to exchange the pass.

I waited for about 20 minutes to exchange the pass. The lady who verified my exchange order told me I cannot make so many Shinkansen seat reservations there, and I was only allowed to make a seat reservation for my following day ride. But I didn't believe her, so I went to ask the counter staff to help me make 8 seats reservation.

As I did not want to chiong to Aomori via Shinkansen on my 1st day after the redeye flight, I decided to go somewhere near which was Ibaraki prefecture. Next, I checked the blooming status of the kochia in the Hitachi Seaside Park, and it was still in the green-red phase rather the scarlet red.

So I went to explore Mito city instead.

As I got hungry after walking to the Art Tower, so I wanted to find something to fill my stomach, but the nearby restaurants I checked on Google Maps were only open in the evening.

I went to jiak something familiar to every tourist, McDonald's. I jiak the Scent of Shichimi Beef Sukiyaki Tsukimi burger. The patty thickness is similar to our SG ones, guess inflation has affected everywher

Next, I went to see the ginkgo trees at Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of History, it was still relatively green.
