After leaving the summit station, I took the left blue route to hike to Mt. Akakuradake.

Day 3 (cont)

In the beginning, I still could see some young & old folks hiking the red/blue route, but after the intersection leaving the blue route, I started to see fewer hikers.

Halfway through the hike, I was kind of surprised to hear the ringing sound of the bear bell as I doubt to see any black bear living in such an environment. I guess it is usual for the Japanese hiker to bring along a bear bell.

Something I noticed during the hike, the descending hikers would give way to the ascending hikers. Another etiquette was the greeting of Konnichiwa whenever hikers passing by each other.

The rougher part of the hike, I think was at around the last 600m, it was like nonstop of climbing up staircase. Have to take multiple 2-3 mins of brief break to catch my breath 😂

And I finally reached Mt. Akakuradake.

The windspeed was quite a moderate breeze. It's kind of scary if there is no rope to hold onto. I was considering whether to carry on with the hike (Mt. Idodake > Mt. Odake > descent to Sukayu onsen), but I don't know how long it would take to do so. So ended up, I just descending from Mt. Akakuradake.

The descending view was kind of scary, especially with the breeze blowing at me and the uneven pathway.

At some point, I got to see the hikers at the left blue route, which I took at the beginning. Waving my hand at them, they would wave back 😲

I didn't know this place could see the amazing scene of snow monsters. I always think that only Mt. Zao has snow monsters.

Yup, I'm travelling alone, always alone :o

You going to Japan as well for your trip?
Want to but always can’t get redemption tickets. Booking 355 days out seems to be the only way.

There was a rest house beside the base ropeway station, so I took my lunch there, curry rice.

After my lunch, I walked to the bus stop hut to have some rest and wait for the return bus. Happened to have two TWMMs resting there as well. So, I took the opportunity to chitchat with them. They shared with me there is this bridge down the road for autumn foliage, which they visited earlier. https://maps.app.goo.gl/97QNa3KK6YxVxBha8

I wasn't sure whether I would be able to make it back in time for the scheduled bus, so I did not give it a try to get to the bridge.

If you don't want to be in the waitlist, redeem 355 days in advance is the only way to secure the business-class flight.

Before this trip, I had visited these prefectures in various seasons.

On this trip, I will be visiting the region that I have yet to step foot into, visiting new prefectures, and re-exploring the prefectures that I have been to.

@MajiMax have you been to Tohoku in spring? Which nature attractions do you recommend?
As I mentioned in the first post, this is my first trip to Tohoku :o

Offhand I can only think off is the coastline area. How about this 1,000km coastal trail? https://www.michinokutrail.com/

Also, you can check out the following websites to find some ideas.
