thanks guys the my Id is quite subpar. they did the rendering and told us to go down and choose the tiles design ourselves.
so your ID did the 3D render before selection of tile? they suggested/you agreed on a colour theme/aesthetic and rendered first?

Thats actually what my wife hoped for but hard to find! One ID did do that but did not prep us beforehand and by the time he quoted/presented we already confirmed with someone else.

there is a common way many ID/contractor work but its not the only way. Some do work differently.

Similar as other posters suggested, there’s an element of expectation. Nothing right or wrong but expectations can be shared and communicated between homeowner and ID/contractor to find alignment.

Nice to have ID during the selection process, but would rather the ID did good to coordinate and rectify any issues than spending time choosing tiles. Have seen people spending half a day and yet can't decide on the tiles. Actually if you know what color to choose, it's kinda straight forward, just a matter of shortlisting a few different tones to compare and texture preference. My ID didn't join me as well, but did advise on types of tiles to avoid, but my renovation is pretty basic. If you are paying near 100k, then expectation of service might be different.
I dont think your example of “coordination” is entirely valid because at the point of material selection tends to be in the earlier part of the design process so not much to “coordinate”

ya they did the rendering for us. so we just need to source the tiles ourself based on the color. but the texture and size we will need to based on our preference.

1. Quotation
2. Confirm with ID and pay deposit.
3. 3D render
4. Selection of material like tiles, vinyl. ID select tiles together. Vinyl and laminate usually ID shortlist then ask suppliers to send sample to your house for selection.

That is the usual flow.

The coordination part is later, but if ID spend 1 day with you selecting tiles, he could also be spending that 1 day while your house is renovating. What I'm saying is, I rather they put in more effort on the more important aspects than walking around tiles gallery waiting for owner to decide. End of the day, owner should have the final say on the exact tiles.

Hi everyone, I have some words of caution regarding my bad experience with Visionary Interior ID Gerard Chin.

I've left honest Google and FB reviews on their page, and all they've done so far for "service recovery" is to BLOCK me on FB immediately :ROFLMAO: really super professional.
  • >2 month delays past the completion date stated to us by ID Gerard. Currently at the last few bits of our renovation but we just can't continue working with him anymore.
  • Earlier on during our renovation - Checked with ID Gerard multiple times to confirm the date of delivery+installation of TV, sofa, bed, curtains, to suit HIS reno progress and schedule. Already postponed delivery+installation date prior to that because reno items could not be completed. On the date of delivery+installation confirmed by ID Gerard, carpentry was still not completed, floor protection and scaffolding was still everywhere in the unit, and he expected TV sofa bed and curtains to be installed as planned. All external installation parties declined installation because my items would be damaged if installed at that time. All external parties had to reschedule.
  • Another incident - ID Gerard and his electrician (attitude is not great) kept us waiting for 2 hours past the scheduled meeting time of 10 AM. He was not responding to texts during the 1st 45 min of the 2 h we were kept waiting.
  • ID Gerard will tell you "renovation is like that one, don't need to get angry". If anyone out there is looking for this kind of EXCITING reno experience, please go ahead and work with him. He did apologise after the above events occurred, but the apologies turned out to be empty because the rest of the reno progress did not improve and continued to have multiple delays with no explanation (e.g. "I think painter will not come today") and no updates without us having to chase for them.
  • Our renovation experience ended with us asking 3x over 2 working days for updates, because he was not replying, not even to tell us "I'm busy, I will reply later at ____/by _____." We were NOT asking WHY something is not done, but just for UPDATES. ID Gerard replied us with essentially: if we want to hunt him down at his office (to get a reply!), he will wait for us to hunt, and told us "usually such hunts go 2 ways". Wow what an EXCITING experience with Visionary Interior!
Maybe I'm suaku or what, but is this the standard of ID to be expected in SG? When we are paying customers who are actually hiring them? I have never delayed payments to them during the entire time working with them. Everyone please share your experiences with me if I should really be accepting this kind of service and that "renovation is like that one" as ID Gerard says.

Please warn your friends and family if they are choosing IDs! 🙏

A lot of IDs are useless if you ask me.
Meet too many due to my job and most of them only know how to talk but do little or lousy.
Good luck in finding a good IDs, i deal with more than hundreds or even thousands of IDs.
Even a couple of my friends are IDs and they admit IDs are useless.
When owner bought item from retail shop got problem, owner find IDs, IDs find retail shop, retail shop find distributor. So end up distributor usually have to solve the bought item problem.
I give you all 1 tip, always find a good installer for item like air con, ceiling fan, water heater, toilet bowl and other items that need to be installed onto your house wall/ceiling/floor. General installer can do the job but there are chances they don't know all the different brands of item good enough and end up not doing the best installation job. If your general installer company is responsible, at least they will come down to help solve the problem but if they are not responsible company then house owner most probably have to pay extra for the service.

where are the main cons? searched everywhere but it all seem to be IDs or "contractors" that quote same or higher than IDs. or is their primary difference not in pricing? e.g. i got quotes from Larry contractors and TK contractors, not cheaper than the IDs i met. another 2 direct hacking/tiling con i asked also same case
i finally found and engaged one maincon. so far so good it seems. 30yrs in the biz, exp w him been good, quote good and payment milestone also fair. in fact only this and another maincon i asked for quote from who has been in the biz for 40+ yrs gave fair payment milestone upfront. all the IDs more of less ask for 60% before/upon start with last tranche 5% and they have less than 5-10 yrs of existence. these old birds have little to no google reviews is what i observed. fingers crossed.

Like to ask if any bro or sis here know about Alan and Kat?

Because the contact came from Livspace. Just like to know if anyone knows which studio they are with as they are not at liberty to share at this point in time.

Alan and Kat are very common names. Have you tried a Google search for 'interior designer Alan' and 'interior designer Kat' and what are the results?
