Unfortunately there are not many insurers that offer coverage for pre-ex. Like you pointed out, MSIG and TIQ dont offer covid coverage or as add on to their pre ex plans (only available for their normal plans). So not like there are many choices for you to shop around or compare. You can play around to see if it is better off buying a separate plan for covid (to utilise that only for covid benefits) based on ur destination and duration. Then compared it to the Income one. Should be allowed as long as no overlap claims/double claiming. I normally purchase the MSIG Pre-Ex for my parents.

Yes, it is very difficult to find those that have covid coverage. Not sure if there are plans just for covid for those with pre existing conditions. From what I see, covid coverage is usually an add-on.

That means you didn't went with any covid coverage since the MSIG Pre Ex plan that you purchased for your parents don't have it? Or did they offer it previously?

Could not really remember but I think it excluded. But my priority for the insurance was to cover pre-ex so the lack of covid coverage was something I could live with. If you want both, I think no choice but to pay a premium for it and go for the income one

Considering the latter. Is it advisable to pay the premium to include the covid coverage?

If you dont get it and you happen to need it, you will regret not doing so but if you bought it but in the end not need it, you might see it as a waste of money. But honestly for things like insurance, being 'wasteful' can be a good thing cos we all hope to not ever need to use it or claim it. If already spent quite a bit on the holiday, no point just scrimping on the insurance I think. So I will say do whatever gives you a peace of mind.

I am going to Japan for 90 day & then from Japan to Taiwan for another 30 days but for annual travel insurance plan the most they cover is 90day. So it is very expensive to buy a single trip plan for 120 days to Japan & then Taiwan. Can I actually buy an annual plan for my 90days in Japan & buy separate insurance for my trip in Taiwan? Any advise here? TIA

as in to buy it in Taiwan or buy it in Singapore as it has to be out & back from Singapore?

yep ... that's the crucial condition u picked up on

have never come across this situation or seen any discussion

best to call a insurer to find out ... if u r Mindef GTL client, ask SingLife, they r quire responsive

I emailed Singlife to ask whether can effect cover from another country, and the reply is NO.

They reaffirmed must fulfill this requirement:

Please be informed that one of the requirement to qualify for our travel insurance is you will be taking a round-trip journey that begins and ends in Singapore.

*asking Singlife on behalf of my nephew who is going away for about 3 weeks with the first 2 weeks covered under company travel insurance and the additional extension week he has to cover himself. So now, he just has to cover the full 3 weeks on own.

to add some data points ...

1) MSIG cover Flight Diversion, including mechanical breakdowns of aircraft

2) Sompo specifically EXCLUDES mechanical breakdown as an Insured Event

3) Singlife does not list mechanical breakdown as an Insured Event

so yah, better read the Policy Wordings
I never buy insurance for travel until I'm travelling with my first child for the first time.
Got it from a relative and he bought MSIG on our behalf.

Few years ago the plane we took really got delayed for our returned flight due to engine issue and baggage were delayed a day after we reached SG.
Luckily the insurance we bought got it covered for mechanical breakdown and now den I know some actually exclude it after reading your post....

Anyone relied on complimentary Chubb travel insurance offered by Diners Credit Card when purchasing air tickets using it?
