Everytime for the first few seconds when I put on my xm5, I always hear the ambient sound amplified. Then the noise canceling kick in (which is what I set). How do I permanently turn off the ambient sound thing?

I don't think can. There's 3 modes. Can only disable "off". I think it's for safety. Initial wear goes ambience. You just have to tap to noise cancellation ( the 2 tones sound).
