thanks, so far, based on my understanding, this is how I'll go about it. can help see if anything is not right?

arrive at KIX, i will take Kansai-Airport Express “HARUKA” that takes me from KIX to Kyoto. Ticket will be purchased directly at KIX.
Upon reaching Kyoto, I buy JR ticket that brings me from Kyoto to Nagoya.
Wanted to transfer at Kyoto cause I think the transfer is easier than in Osaka station.

On return, I plan to take using Kintetsu railway (HINOTORI) that takes me from Kintetsu-Nagoya to Osaka-Namba Station.
I think I will get Kintetsu 5 day pass and use it on 2nd/3rd day to nara. so it kinds of cover me from nagoya-osaka-nara. I just need to purchase the additional express ticket.

is it right?
usually for intercity more convenient to take JR. but if u need to visit city between say nagoya & namba covered by kintetsu, maybe can consider.

imo osaka metro pass more convenient since it covers both kintetsu & keihan subway

when I tried to make purchase of limited express, it states like "depart after"

HJmJxp6.png

does it mean that if I choose after 4pm, and it shows

does that mean that I can take any train after 4pm? cause I cannot be sure what time I will be at the station.
cause based on the site, I must select one timing, can I change after purchase? r change on the spot at the day in the station?

thanks!
limited express are all reserved seats. so u must to pick time to wish to depart. "after 4pm" just a filter to list available trains. u can amend before limited train depart, don't think u can change after the limited train has departed,

Japan train very punctual normally, u definitely know when u reach the station. but winter might have some risk.

it's a direct route, so dont have place between nagoya and osaka namba. i know JR more direct but it's also more expensive, but faster by around an hour. which i think might be ok, given that I can try out the premium seat for the HINOTORI one. and another thing, not sure if i'm right, kintetsu stops directly at osaka-namba, where jr stop at the shin-osaka. so it's abit more convenient also to take kintetsu.

u mean I can get osaka metro pass, then use it as the basic fare ticket which can be used to buy the express limited HINOTORI train?

wa, that means I need to add buffer, and make sure i'm there before the train depart. when you say can amend before depart, u mean online or at the train station? so mean say i plan for 5pm, but i reach at 330 where there's 4pm. i can change to 4pm train at the counter?

winter risk is what?

since direct route why not skip the kintetsu pass & just buy the hinotori express ticket. once u reach namba, u can use osaka metro pass to travel around keihan & kintetsu subways.if u got kintetsu pass u can't use on keihan

that said, i didn't workout which is more cost saving, so i leave to u to check further & decide yourself

u mean I can get osaka metro pass, then use it as the basic fare ticket which can be used to buy the express limited HINOTORI train?
no, osaka metro pass only covers most subway around kansai (except JR)

u can't buy/amend kintetsu tickets online right so u need amend at station ticket counter but subject to seat availability.

winter risk is what?
train delay due to weather.

correct me if im wrong. im still confused.

i get the kintetsu pass because it can be used as the basic fare for hinotori train, i only need to buy the topup for the limited express? and it can also be used to do day trip to nara.
if i dont get the kintetsu pass, can i just get the basic + limited express ticket directly from the website? or do i buy limited express from online, then at station buy the basic fare?

i can still get osaka metro pass for travelling within osaka, or the osaka pass ma.

kintetsu pass 5d consecutive jpy3700
basic fare nagoya-namba jpy2860
diff jpy840

yeah good deal. hintori premium looks good with big windows. slower might not be bad idea if it travels thru rural areas

get limited express tickets online (e-ticket) to secure your seats. basic buy from station

seems like kintetsu able to reserve & amend (3 times) limited express seats online. so peace of mind for u.

https://kansai-chan-guide.com/kintetsu-pass/ scroll to the 5 Days & 5 Days Plus Pass portion.

just a easier access point / base area to and from osaka.

am heading to gifu area for couple of days.

is there better choice?
If you have booked your ticket then no better choice.

Otherwise, you can get an open jaw flight route via SQ. Arrival in Nagoya and Depart from KIX.

Thank you.
