Which restaurants you went to, though? I was at Orchard Road over the weekend and the restaurants and eateries there were packed to the brink like sardines with both locals and tourists, some with long queues overflowing.

Some of the eateries at geylang and jalan besar are half-empty but they usually cater to migrants and expatriates.

i think the restaurant you went mainly caters to tiongs. i went to this ulu restaurant under a HDB block last night and it was fully booked. they are not cheap either. 300+ for 5pax. super old teochew restaurant... plus point is they allow BYO.
