I am thinking to install one digital lock in my HDB door gate, anyone can recommend me a quality one, should I go for battery or chargeable one?

Hi Folks, for those who have installed a Lockin digital door lock recently, can someone tell me how I can share the device to my family members?

I have 2 devices in the Xiaomi app (Roborock vacuum cleaner + V5 Max) but when I sent the Xiaomi home invite over to my partner and she scanned the invite with her xiaomi app and joined the home, she can only see the vacuum cleaner but not the V5 max. Is there something I am missing out on?

Also curious if I am able to control the door (and see it's status) from outside? Since it's already connected to the Internet, or do I need to purchase an additional device?

Thanks!

On "quality gate lock .... In the absence of more specific requirements/wordings, I would suggest known manufacturers Yale and Solity. Solity has an interesting background: it has been making locks for other Korean brands (including Samsung push pull locks).

On battery ....I have not come across a gate lock (generally small footprint) that uses rechargeable battery. If there are any, it must be an exception - in which case you may want to decide the other way round ie. if you like that (exception of a) lock that much, in addition to it being able to use rechargeable batteries.

Anyone came across any gate lock or rim locks that has mechanical/key access from the outside? So far what I seen is key access from the inside.

Pretty much ALL digital locks have key access from the outside, its just hidden/covered. Mechanical key is a fail safe.

i believe that's the case for the wooden door locks, but i'm guessing this is not common for gate locks (keyhole usually at the inside from what i have seen)

As my gate is pet friendly (fully meshed up, cant put my hands to the inside of the lock from outside), am looking if there are any with physical key access from the outside as a fail safe.

Yes. Almost all gate locks are re-engineered from small footprint rim door lock. It would have space constraints to fit a key hole in front, in addition to the higher priority need for a key hole at the back. Why the priority on the back ie from inside? Because there is otherwise no manual way of opening from inside, should there be a hot emergency to exit. It is unique to gate context.

A long shot would be to consider deadbolts (for doors) that have key holes on the front. However, it would require a new gate designed to fit a deadbolt. I mentioned about the Aqara U100 previously as an example of this. Search U100 gate in this forum thread. This is likely your last resort unless you already plan to replace the gate sometime soon.

Hi, I wanna get 2 x Aqara A100 for my Main Gate and Door but realized the width of my gate is too small for the installation.
May I know are there any other ways to get it install?

My gate design is same as the one on the left, Lock plate thickness approx. 2cm and the whole gate plate if I'm not wrong is 2.5cm.

You can't put an Aqara A100 on the gate, even the old HDB gate style. Even if you can think of an idea, no one would (want to) have that conversation with you.

The alternative is to build a new gate to fit A100. Or consider not having any on the gate. Less is more.

PS. If you must have one Aqara and investigation is your forte, wait for the specs for Aqara U300. It was just announced at CES2024. It does not have a mortise but a smallish latch - that same latch you see on a small knob lock for room doors. It is not ideal, but an approach to study further. The Singapore market for this latch type is too small here so I doubt the distributor will bring it in. You may have to take some risk to purchase elsewhere and experiment. Write it off or deploy to a room when it becomes clear that it can't be done.

open up whatever cover you see on the outside, usually keyholes are hidden at the side of the handle or covered up.

width isn't even the real problem, where do your batteries go with 2x A100 (exterior)?

Battery is only on inner side, so how do you put any batteries on the 2 external sides?

Erm, why need put battery on the external?

1 for Main gate battery internal and another for main door internal right?

This is the video I saw, at 46 seconds mark, however owner change main gate to glass door.

How is glass door the same as metal gate??? Ur hand can pass thru glass? Hand can easily reach the inner gate lock and open without any authentication. Standard metal gate will require 2x external lock face instead the normal 1 inner, 1 outer (A100).

Oh I roughly get what u mean liao.

My current house is using this default HDB lock, therefore unlikely hand can go in.
However for A100, someone use need to use a tool from outside to press the inside lever down, door will open?

So I need to get a lock simillar to this that can open from inside without lever?

I have an S30 Pro. It does not allow sharing the device across two accounts. I did ask then and I asked again my vendor for V5 Max. Same. Looks like you have to use a shared account.

Also curious if I am able to control the door (and see it's status) from outside? Since it's already connected to the Internet, or do I need to purchase an additional device?

Thanks!
V5 Max, (likely the same for S50M Pro, the other WiFi model) :

. For remote notifications, it does not need another device. Just WiFi would do.

. For automation, get a Mi Hub. Or equivalent Apple Home Pod for HomeKit,

However, not all functions can be remotely done. My S30 Pro does not allow remote unlocking. Call the vendor just to be sure.

Lever or not isn't important, what important is there need to be some kind of authentication to prevent people from outside opening. Most budget metal gate mortise lock uses 2 identical locks and function as 2 separate entity.

I recently bought a resale condo with a Yale digital lock installed on the front door. It can be opened with keypad, keycard and mechanical key. I'm thinking of reusing the lock but I'm not sure if I'm able to replace all the keys from previous owner. Although I can invalidate previous passcode and key cards, there's still a mechanical key that previous owner may have kept a duplicate.

Any idea whether the mechanical key parts can be replaced?
