Just finished another interview for a crypto firm. The HR say they got 4 more interviews but somehow want me to start working for them by 5th Feb, Monday.

Not sure how they are gonna do this, assuming I even get hired.

Most people lose job in 40s and have to go for lower paying jobs
Yah. That one i see before. Seems to be more common these days.

I think I have to farm until i have enough to survive if i get axed by 40 years old.

Don't think it's possible for me to keep jumping ship until i get sacked with a golden parachute then FIRE from there, i am not that zai.

I think i should have been clearer regarding my impression of the rat race, it would be to compete against the elite and become one of them.

You know, those high earners who also have condos, cars and what have you.
Thought you meant working in general. Like that from the start, I already given up on the rat race liao 😅

More competitive for my hobbies, just competed in a time trial 4km run with the running club I went to :D

Work is just part of it bah. Wealth and social status are also important.

Good that you can run as my knee injuries are back. I am contemplating going to a physio if the injuries persist.

Social status doesn't matter for most of us. Unless u super rich, u are just one of that many many middle class in sg

you don’t worry about job and financial ?
I worry. It's just that I have yet to think of a backup plan if i get fired.

My wife got laid off before and it took her 4 months to get employed. She was lucky to get a government role that pays almost the same as her previous job.

But as one gets older and the salary keeps increasing, it becomes increasingly difficult to get employed for the same pay once you are fired.

It's after 35 that u need worry about finding jod. Before 35 it's quite easy to get reemployed. After 40 if lose jod is expect to not find another of similar pay. After 50, prepare to drive grab

I have thoughts of going into government in my 30s but I worried they lowball me. Get older will prefer stability to retiremrnt

Yeah. I think the higher your rank and salary, the easier for you to be let go also.

Unless somehow you become CEO/Chairman and no one can sack you.

How old are you this year?

I am already in my 30s but I am fine with not working for the government for now. Low ball offers aside, the culture in the government sector is just not for me.

I think i will jump ship less often from now on, maybe every 3 to 5 years instead. The pay jump has to be worth it also, won't accept anything lower than 30% increment for me.

Always cheaper to hire someone out of school for 5 to8 years who has some experience to replace the older chap

Wealth and social status are good goals to chase for. For myself, stability and work life balance more important.

Had a bit of cramp ache that I was recovering from for some time, but managed to get better this week.

If regular stretching/icing doesn't help for some time, then best to go physio for a check up.
