the devil is in the details. gahmen where got so good give you free money just for studying one.

back during my day, only the top 10% of each cohort can go poly and not all will be successful because there is limited spaces at poly and courses and there are certain courses that are technical courses with very high cut off pointage filled up by people who are not even interested in the course because they were JC rejects

personally i dunno how much has changed since my time, but i am pretty sure it hasn't change much becoz afterall, its MOE. LOL

"This will give them a head start in purchasing a home or saving for retirement,” said Mr Wong.

Hahahahaha a head start against who, foreigner ITE students? Who stay jobless for 2 years while you serve NS?
Most of the foreigners who study in ITE are from ASEAN countries like Indo, PH who went thru the sec sch system 🤔

The Finance Minister also announced a new ITE Progression Award, which comes in two parts.

The first part is a S$5,000 top-up to the post-secondary education accounts of ITE graduates when they enrol in a diploma programme.

The second is when students attain their diplomas - they will get a further S$10,000 top-up to their CPF Ordinary Accounts.

“This will give them a head start in purchasing a home or saving for retirement,” said Mr Wong.

Rewards for the easy life through the ITE route to poly vs the one that worked extra hard to get to poly direct.
Just sad that working hard work does not pay ......

Some ppl is slow boomer. So they fall out of the system. of course there are also those beyond hope… must wait 5 to 10 years to see if this policy works…

I was talking to a msian n somehow I said sg is v funny
Locals with foreign cert like part time degree etc r not going to consider degree in a way and don’t jump as high

but FT with foreign cert somehow like can be better or recognized esp when some might go for some conversion at local u? Can anyhow verify this conversion? But why don’t let them sit for local exam esp medical exam if they only need to go thru conversion which can be mths? How to verify if the doc is really properly trained when overseas liked india they do have history of ppl infiltrating sch sys to get the grades they r not eligible for

Totally support this type of initiative.. Much better than dumping hundreds of millions to FT scholarships that only come with a weak bond (eg, 6 years in any sg company and other easy to attain t&c)

At least got 10k to cover a bit of CPF contribution loss during 2 years NS. That’s equal to the personal cpf contribution you get from a job that pays $2083 per month of basic salary excluding bonus and 13 month leh.

there is another 15k for the 3 NS milestones also

Nice to read someone who support.

I was telling some ppl eh this is quite a good initiative, glad Lawrence Wong putting money there. I support this.

But they give me weird look say money also not for us, not our concern, budget is taking taxpayers money and funding these things.

Nowadays feel happy for other ppl cannot meh? Really must every man for himself ah

Doesn't matter the actual quality. All that matters is population growth.

Say for example you have guy A and guy B. Guy A scores well and would have a degree job. Guy B scores poor and would become ITE job.

Of course to the natives, the best solution would be guy A local in degree job and guy B foreigner in ITE job. However as you know Singapore ITE salary is so low that nobody wants to come in to work.

For a sustainable development, make it free market, guy A will stay and work, if pay is low then guy B will not want to work. Number of worker reaches equilibrium at 1.

So what would government do? Create quotas, make guy A unable to get a degree. Give guy A an education certification that is unrecognized anywhere else in the world and force him to work ITE since he cannot migrate. Now you have a slot for uni job. Then claim that there is insufficient workers (despite intentional education quotas) so you can import guy B who will willingly come. Now number of workers is 2.
