Belated thoughts on recently completed dramas:

繁花
Pros: A-grade production team, excellent cast, movie-quality TV series
Cons: lack of English subtitles, no international release
Recommendation: highly recommended

狂飙
Pros: main villain is interesting and well-casted
Cons: feels too propagandistic and too long from second half onwards
Recommendation: picked this up as was curious why this was such a big domestic hit, surprised to have finished it

Currently watching 花间令 (In Blossom). This drama is ranking quite high in Youku's popularity index; I think it can hit 10,000 (the max.) tonight. Not bad for a drama that dropped quite quietly, with the trailer just released one day before the series was out.

The story has potential but is let down by weak acting and distracting makeup from the lead actress. The director (no idea who) seems mediocre. But nothing like this (period mystery/thriller/romance) is showing now so this drama fills a gap.

Haven't managed to complete a series in some time so this might be next (despite its problems)!
