i always buy the 7-11 $1 drink
Strongly suggest you read the ingredients list of these drinks before you buy them. After reading and understanding what is inside the bottles, I usually put them back on the shelf. :ROFLMAO: My life is already very short and worth more than $1.

CNY open?
Most hawker stalls are closed
Cos Malaysian and China staff go home
And TBH really not that much business to justify opening
This year CNY, when I go market or coffeeshop, most stalls at hawker are closed but more of the coffee shop ones are open. But the prices all jack up, some don't even tell me until I ordered the food. Just take my $$ and don't give me change.

I end up eating fast food or cooking my meals for the rest of CNY public holiday. Boycott the stall that jack up prices for CNY without displaying anything.

Ya
All hawkers jack up during CNY
Maybe or very likely $1 more.

If no jack, the foreigners rather be at home sleeping and gambling

Thought that's UNDERSTOOD in Singapore
Are you Singaporean?

Those that anyhow raise price are franchised shops like

Ya Kun
Ding Tai Fung
Dian Xiao Er
Tbh, nowadays inflation is high, service workers pay is also increasing. That is why every few years, if boss don't give me significant promotion or raise or cut my bonus, I will look for better job. If not really cannot step into restaurants anymore.

Yes... can understand if prices raise from $3.50 to $3.70 or $4 to $4.30

The above are oredi a 7 to 8% increase... more than enuf to cover raw material and rental increase

But noooooo..... they raise from $4 to $5, and $5 to $6. More than 20 = 25%... wtf!!??
Depends if the food is good lorh, my side have 3 very popular hawker stalls, everyday long queue at lunch and dinner (10+ pax), even though the queues move quite fast.

Two stalls price raised over the years from $2.5(S)/$3.5(M)/$4.5(L) to $4(S)/$5(M)/$6(L)
Third stall price is now $6(S)/$8(L) for mixed fish soup, excluding rice price.
Have other popular stalls like curry rice which is even more expensive if you order things like squid.

Still got quite long queues even though every 1-2 years they up price by $0.5 - $1. Price higher abit is also good, if not must wait even longer. My favorite is to skip breakfast and order one L dish from one stall and add $5-10 ingredients, then go eat L fish soup without rice.

But if less popular stalls try to sell similar food at same price, really no business sia...

I okay with increased price, but cannot be increase and don't display, just charge me more because I am a certain race. Nowadays, 1-2 days before CNY can jack up prices already... and not Chinese stall also can increase price before CNY...

*shrugs* I spent almost a decade outside Singapore for work.

Mmm 1 day before or 2 already closed If foreign workers cos Malaysia and China jammed

And jacked up prices is like 3 days of CNY

Would advisable even after that like 4th day ask about prices before ordering

One of my degrees is in biochemistry and even I need to Google some of the ingredients. The little I understand about the safety of the stuff they put inside, from the chemical structures and various sources... makes me decide to drink other drinks.

You can Google the ingredients one by one if you want (unless you are buying $1 distilled or mineral water bah).

As mentioned, the part I am irked by is that they display e.g. $5 for dish A. But when I pay it is $7 although they display it at $5. Other stalls will display the "CNY surcharge", so I thought that a non-Chinese stall which didn't display anything, didn't have a surcharge before CNY and I ordered from them. Then they just took my cash without telling me the price and didn't give me change.

Never mind, I have boycotted the stall since that purchase. I am decently okay at cooking that particular non-Chinese dish anyway, better than the stall at least. Plus have many other stalls around Sg and my workplace selling similar food with accurately displayed prices.

Ah yes
Malay stalls and Indian stalls also charged extra too during CNY which is BS

Not sure but think in past they didn't do that
