i came to this enlightenment as well. And nowadays the weather is just too humid in SG. If i take out my equipment from dry cabinet, it will be shortening their lifespan
Exactly!

those who went through will completely understand the situation and problem!

rather than enjoying taking pictures you need to keep watch for rains and harsh weather which will cause damage to the lens and camera body!

personally I even witnessed a guy his cameras fall off from his hands and the camera fall off the cliff when a lady sudden tip off and her body hit his back…he was standing at the viewing gallery stage viewing blue mountain….

a 2 thousand plus gear gone in a few seconds…

I don’t pixel creep but as long as a picture is out of focus, it is as good as gone. I find DSLR pics very sharp compared to hp pics.

It’s also the colours and the naturalness of the pics. Hp tends to emphasise the wrong things and make people less flattering.

One "good thing" about smartphone revolution ( and tablets for that matter ) is many folks no longer view nor use PC with large monitors which magnifies flaws.

Scroll pics embedded on edmw on a browser is just a small tiny fraction of your 2k oled display.

Tiny 50mp sensors = poor SNR signal to noise ratio + photosites smaller than the wavelength of visible light ( esp on the longer red segment ) = no real useful information except larger files requiring more space. Unacceptable noise be it random or patterned on a 34" will look perfectly fine on tiny screens.

Although physics cannot lie, thankfully the smartphone softwares can.

Smartphones have largely superseded Point& Shoots, buy well optimized 'small' camera that utilizes an entire 1" sensor is actually pretty good too.

Why not get dji osmo or gopro?

Osmo Pocket 3. 1 inch sensor, very pocketable, very fun. The video is better than my P7P

Straight out, no tweaks no color grading. Color temp abit off. Still overseas currently.

Why so many Sony mirrorless users? Have you all used Canon or Nikon before? I saw Sony images but was not very impressed.

If you shoot Raw and then PP, color is largely immaterial.

But if you are a jpeg only shooter only it could be a compelling case to get a camera with a particular color profile that fits your straight out of camera preferences.

* But even then most cameras allows manually tweaking and creating custom color profiles for jpeg output *

Nice. now got very small and light f2.8 already. the 24mm,40mm,50mm F2.5 sony prime G lens is dam small. i have the 40mm f2.5 super light.

Sian to switch lenses on the go. When I was using Nikon all zooms, when I was using Canon all L primes. Now Sony back to zooms but lightweight ones..

When changing lenses on the move, mirrorless tends to get sensor dust far more easily than the older DSLRs which are somewhat "shielded" by the mirror assembly. I always bring sensor swabs for holidays.

Anybody has used Nikon mirrorless? Can I mount my DX lens on them? Is a mirrorless better than a DSLR? Never tried one before. What’s the big deal about being mirrorless besides the smaller size?
mirrorless z mount needs an adaptor to fit the previous DSLR F mount. DX lens is aps-c, which if used on full frame becomes cropped.

mirrorless smaller, lighter and used electronic viewfinder instead of optical viewfinder. it also has different mount and hence the lens.

but first of all, you have to decide what type of photo you shoot and would you be ok with a fixed normal-wide angle focal length? because many recommendations of fixed focal lengths cameras or handphones may not work for you (or it may), depending on what you shoot. only you can tell us that.

once u decided on the focal lengths, then im sure u will get more targeted recommendations to narrow down what u want to look at.

If I travel specially for photography, I will bring full frame. Heavy like f.
If I just need to shoot travel photos fast and extensively, I will bring m4/3 Olympus or Panasonic. Smaller and lighter.
If I just want many quality shots and better controls, 1 inch sensor. Prosumer Sony or Canon.
If I just want mostly people and memory shots, phone camera with photography app for better control. Most convenient.

How about tripod?

In a supermarket now.

For travelling I use a Peak Design CF tripod. Extremely compact folds to 39cm for given maximal height, stiff, light. Integrated ballhead however needs some getting used to, and cannot pan accurately..

There are many alternative Chinese knockoffs with improvements in the ballhead for a song.
