sorry to ask you ah
this ONT is a little too chim for me.

I am thinking of the ONR option.
my children connects to the router for wifi only.

If i sign the ONT plan, means i need to a seperate router is it?

(TV and my PC is wired to the existing starhub router)

What is your existing Starhub router? Do you have LAN ports in the rooms?

Average users will usually have no issues with the ONR option with XS-2426X-A ONR plus Nokia Beacon 2. You can even reuse your existing Starhub issued router in AP mode as well if needed.

On the other hand, power users may want the freedom to use their own router so they may not want to go with the ONR option.

yes - every room got port

but small house - so far, the router inthe DB box is sufficient for most cases.

kids uses simba 100GB plan some more, no wifi, they also wont' die.

existing router- forgot
hhahahahah

i am not so hands on, so thinking ONR is enough for my family.

called starhub, i am less than 3 months away from my current 1GBPS fibre expiration
they don't allow me to recon this $29.55 plan
but if my wife, (only has a starthub mobile) logs in and attempt to sign online, she can.

i think i try 1633 again later.

you need a router to be connected to the ONT (treat it as modem in old days).
if you reuse your existing router, chances are you are not fully utilising the bandwidth if the router is not 10G WAN.
my existing 1gbps router - should be linksys one
the one with 4 spokes

Then it is most likely Linksys EA8100v1 AC2600 rated WiFi 5 router (or the older Linksys EA7500v2).

Nokia XS-2426X-A XGS-PON ONR (WiFi 6, AX6000 rated) should not be worse than your existing Linksys. Nokia Beacon 2 can be put in a bedroom to enhance the coverage if necessary.

If you have 2.5G/10G capable wired device in the future, that can be connected to the Nokia ONR 10G LAN port.

For average users, no need to worry too much about not able to fully use the 5Gbps bandwidth provided by the 5Gbps plan.

In fact many users do not even use wired devices at all and it is hard to fully utilize the full bandwidth of 5Gbps plan (let alone 10Gbps plans) plan using purely wireless devices.

It has been mentioned many times that 99% or more of the users do not need the high bandwidth provided by 5Gbps or 10Gbps plans (take note the effective bandwidth of 10Gbps XGS-PON based plan is only about 8.2Gbps).

Many people go to the higher 5Gbps plan or even 10Gbps plan because the effective price is lower than their existing 1Gbps or 2Gbps plan. One example is the Starhub 10Gbps plan with EPL, or Starhub 10Gbps HomeHub+ bundle. The other example is the Starhub 5Gbps special offer at S$29.55 per month.

But for those people want to learn more and improve their home networks, upgrading to 5Gbps plan may be a good triggering point to upgrade the devices (wireless router, 10G switch, 10Gbe network adapter) which can cost quite a bit money. I guess that is perfectly fine as well -- just to budget carefully and live within the means.

For example, you can start with EB810v or HB710 router and upgrade one of your device to 10G (desktop or labtop or NAS).

Personally I spent S$1000 already on 2.5G/10G stuff this year because I like to learn about this new area (wasted some money along the way). Yet I still need to spend another S$400 for the 10G capable WiFi 7 router (waiting for the price to drop, budgeted but not spent yet).

But then I spent less than S$400 for my main mobile phone (since I set my phone budget to be about S$400 every two years, using Poco X4 GT for the past two years and bought the next Poco X6 Pro recently).

Yes! Thanks to your reminder I just screenshot haha.

A picture is worth a thousand words, I just found out I can finally share images haha.

First pic below shows there’s indeed a $61.04 charge and the sales rep through WhatsApp pointed to “Service Activation Fee Waiver for home broadband_100%” (see red arrow) and it stated as “-“ which indicates the charge will be automatically waived off

Second pic below shows the monthly costs of $29.55 (see red arrow). I asked if the monthly costs will be revised after 24 months. She said no, reason being if the $29.55 is a promotional price for a certain period and has a usual price, it would be stated clearly somewhere but in this case it only reflected the $29.55 monthly subscription cost. Thus, we will continue to pay $29.55 after 24 months

Thanks to xiaofan and those who shared the link multiple times to this community that we can sign up for this superb deal! 😊

Just sharing. Signed up in late Oct.
Got my first bill PDF and only need to pay the pro rate charge for Oct and full Nov fees only.
No service activation and installation charges . Waived.

Signed up for Starhub's 29.90 5Gbps plan in late October, and during sign-up, I specifically requested an ONT instead of an ONR. Today, the installation was finally completed! The installer arrived and got everything set up smoothly in about 15 minutes.

I also picked up two Asus TUF BE6500 routers on Taobao, thanks to a recommendation from @xiaofan. I placed one in the DB box and the other in the living room. So far, everything is running perfectly—definitely a great deal for the 5gbps plan for Starhub.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Router plus shipping worked out to be about 165 SGD per router.

Yes, TP-Link HB710 at S$192 is very good deal.

On the other hand, for people who want to use two nodes mesh solution, two HB710 is at S$384 and you may need to add a 2.5G/10G switch in the DB box if you want to have functional 2.5G LAN ports in the rooms, along with using 10G Ethernet backhaul for the second HB710.

Or you may have to use EB810v + HB710 mesh.

Two nodes of TUF-BE6500 (quad 2.5G ports) are still cheaper with nice Asus FW features. And you still have functional 2.5G ports in the other rooms. Of course the limitation is that the WAN port is only at 2.5Gbps so the 5Gbps plan is uses effectively as a 2.5Gbps plan. The upgrade path will be to go with Asus RT-BE88U in the future as main router.

In the end, different people may have different preferences for the main router selection.

same as MR and viewquest which are all yao gui for money. That is why MR can pay its employees each for $51,000 per year.
Thanks for your information of this condition. I will not think of getting SH for its service due to its yao gui mentality.

I thought someone mentioned above that SH no longer charges this disconnection fee?

Anyone able to get IPv6 on Ultraspeed 5Ghz ONT plan?

I think you may beed to be a bit patient. Apparently Starhub is having some issues with IPv6. Some of the users do not seem to be affected but quite some other users still have issues. Starhub IPv6 capable host percentage reduced from 60%+ to as 30%+ as per APNIC LAB.

Singapore: SIMBA, Starhub and M1 are still the leading Singapore ISPs with regard to IPv6 adoption. Starhub used to the best with above 60% of hosts capable of IPv6. The problem seems to start in September 2024.
