that's a semi-slick tire. You're driving in SG/MY, and especially this time of the year, you would do well to use something that's far more reliable in the wet instead of focusing on dry handling, dry braking and dry grip.
oh ok, cause I remember reaiing that re71rs is ok for wet weather too, so wondering if anyone has tried this with the other tyres mentioned in this thread as a comparison

Of course you can still use RE71RS in the wet. But it is really more of a track-focused tire. Unless you want to buy them as a spare set to use on a track, this should not be your daily driver.

Same same but different bro. Of coz, nails and punctures are the same in that respect!

My previous tyres were not so quiet and I hate it when the road noise disturbed the clarity of my music listening.

With the dramatic quiet's V552, it makes hell of lot of difference for my music listening.
If I may suggest, to better improve your music experience whilst driving (assuming you're an audiophile) you ought to install sound insulation instead. Primary criteria for tire selection should be grip and braking ability. Tire noise should be of low to no consequence. BTW, all tires will have gradual increase in tire noise over time especially when the tread decreases.

Anyway, folks,

I went ahead replacing my Yokohama V552 with the Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred after much ding dong for almost 2 weeks. (205/55/R16).

The DOT is 1724. About 7 months old! So, a matured new tyre! Just the right time!

The workshop pumped 250kpa for all 4 tyres as the usual practice and OMG! Even at that high kpa. This new tyre really gives such a quiet roll, low vibration and super nice soft and gentle bumps over uneven surface and road bumps and over those metal bumps.

The Goodyear Assurance ComflrtTred is definitely way better than the V552 in all departments.

The V552 is super quiet but it wasn't that soft over bumps. At the 250kpa, the V552 would produce super super bumpy ride but not the Goodyear Assurance ComfortTred.

The differences are so much and so obvious.

I think I have made the right choice.

its new, wait till 10K
Of coz I know. 10K later then talk again lah. Haha.

Anyway, the new tyre has a Treadwear of 360. My previous V552 is 280.

The most important is that it's so much comfortable than the V552 even when it was newly installed back then.

Has your v552 even reached 10k?

CSC I've planed through thick puddles, quite okay with the grip. I honestly shouldn't be speeding at high speeds during wet weathers and when I already know the lanes/roads are flooded I mean ponded with water.

PS4 as well, the grip is fantastic during rain. Love it. Pity they don't have the size I need, so I have to go with CSC6/7 now.

Goodyear workshop recommended, but still prefer CSC for now.

Pirelli, never try before.
I am on CSC 7. Love the grip.

Not yet! About over 6K only but as I mentioned. V552 is really lives up to its reputation of being "Dramatic Silent" but over bumps and uneven surface. V552 is not great!

That's why I wasn't satisfy with V552 in that department and I was searching and reading about a better tyre and Goodyear ACT popped up in Singapore in September and decided on it based on my driving and usages.

Front CSC6, rear CSC7, long story, but yes, I'm having fun planing through puddles.
I am quite liking on continental. Was on CCC6 in my previous car.
Wanna try a more "spirited" setup for my current car. so go with 225/40/18 CSC7.

FC suffer a bit but the overall drivability improves.

Tell me straight on my face if I'm stupid.

Strangely, the new Goodyear ACT tyres provide softer ride, less bumpy and lesser road noise at 250kpa rather than the usual understanding and practice of lower pressure at 230kpa on my CN7.

No wonder the workshop guy told me the tyres are the best for comfort ride, less bumpy over bumps and lower noise at 250kpa. Don't lower the pressure too much from 250kpa.

Strange isn't it?

Not stupid.

There is a peak pressure to comfort that your tyre works well with your suspension. Think of your tyre as another suspension in your car.

When it is too soft, it oscillates more and the suspension frequency to wheel frequency superposition are off sync.

I see. I see.. No wonder.

Coz I lowered it to 230kpa or even at 240kpa. My CN7 became so bumpy and noiser.

Then. I called up the workshop to check that is quite "unusual" as my previous V552 works the other way around.

Thank you for your fast reply to clear my confusion.

That is why different tyres are different because of the material used and constructed and stiffness. Once you changed out from factory issued tyre, you need to find the "best" pressure.

Best pressure are subjective.

Thank you so much.

At least, that goodyear workshop knows their product best and advised my to stick to 250kpa and not any lower pressure on my CN7.

So, switching to goodyear ACT is a blessing to me.

Now, my CN7 not only became so comfy and become more responsive on wheel / changing lane / cornering and grip very well as a result of the high 250kpa.

Thanks again. Cheers!
