Same thing happened to my neighbor before. Difference was that the relative was monitoring before I noticed, and discovered it.

I only noticed a hint of salted fish lingering in the air, which wasn’t something I encountered before.

Now I cannot help but think that all those time I smelled salted fish at home was someone decomposing at home.

Salted fish was just the beginning. Once they remove the body, the smell became like someone stir frying salted fish with diarrhea sai to get the wok hei.

Before the people came to clean up, the smell could spread at least 2 units away depending on the wind direction.

Once the cleaning was done, the smell would be limited only to the immediate neighbor and that took about two weeks for the smell to really disappear.
