It's perfectly legal for Singaporeans driving Singapore registered vehicles in Malaysia. No extra requirement. Singaporean drivers have done that for decades.

One thing I suspect, the driver did not bring the physical driver license card and produced only the digital version from Singpass. So, the TP in Malaysia will consider this as "Driving without a license". One is reminded they have to carry their physical driving license with them. I'm not sure if digital driving license is accepted in Singapore during routine checks. Certainly is not the case for Malaysia and it's naive to assume Singapore digital driving licenses will be accepted by Malaysian TP.
Digital versions of Singapore’s national IDs are usually not recognised abroad. Always bring the physical card.

From the article, police originally wrote summon as no license despite telling the driver he need international license. The driver objected because he has Singapore license at that point, so the cop corrected the summon to include "international" in Malay. The driver GPGT the summon.

Then the judge will probably toss that case out of the court because international license is not needed.

No "conversion" needed. Just apply at local AA, they will produce the IDP ( a folded card booklet with your black/white photo). Then just bring along with local driving license when go overseas.

Where Can You Apply for an International Driving Permit?

Automobile Association of Singapore (AA) is the authorised organisation to issue International Driving Permit in Singapore. Following the Convention Road Traffic of 19 September 1949, this international driving licence issued by AA Singapore is valid for 1-year from the date of issue.

Read the article~ nothing to do with singpass digital license~

He was stopped at the road block and TP told him that he needed an international license to drive in Msia~ he was then issued with a summon that said driving without license, "tiada lesen memandu"~

He refused to sign the ticket as he held the SG license~ The TP then manually wrote "antarabangsa" at the back of the summon, aka "international"~

The couple then went to the local police station but the counter staff was not sure about the laws and asked them to come back on Monday, which they already came back to SG~ so they asked the news to help them to clarify~ :s22:

Happened to my friend that kena road block at KL~ the TP also told him he needed an international license~ my friend told him there's hundred thousand SG drivers drive in JB daily, no such international license needed~ the mata said this was KL not JB~

He then google the Asean agreement on driving license and showed him~ the mata refuse to see, got heated up and told my friend, don't tell him what to do~ my friend not wanting to get into the argument and accepted the court order slip to attend court that said driving with an invalid license, all in malay language~

My friend went to JBJ to dispute, took him many weeks to follow up and subsequently the official email him that he was cleared and they had looked into the case~
