REVIEW:

"The Sony BRAVIA 7 [XR70] is an impressive TV overall for most uses. It truly shines when watching movies or the latest shows in HDR in a completely dark room, thanks to its high contrast ratio and vibrant colors. Games look equally amazing, and it has a huge selection of gaming features. It's less well-suited to certain users when watching shows or sports in a well-lit room, as its narrow viewing angle means you really need to be sitting directly in front of the screen for the best image, and the anti-reflective coating doesn't reduce glare enough to use it in a really bright room.

Pros
  • Incredibly bright.
  • Fantastic contrast thanks to its Mini LED local dimming feature.
  • Stays true to the director's intent, with excellent accuracy out of the box.
Cons
  • Disappointing viewing angle."

QLED always have the viewing angle issue, where you sit certain angle the quality of the picture not nice, unlike IPS panel all angle same

The TV as a Centre speaker is a far cry from a real centre speaker in a HT system
Ya, but IMHO it's a good compromise vs just using the soundbar for everything bah

For space reasons, many of us have now ditched a HT system mah

Anyway, I am also considering getting a Samsung setup since they can also use a similar technology for the TV to act as a centre speaker for voices

It is crapy product, dodge at all cost. I bought a 65X85J @ 2.6k and it spoiled in 3 years and 4 months ( coincides with the expiry of the warranty of course ). On average, I used it less than 2 hrs daily. Now looking at TCL, at least it offers 5 years warranty

not an expert on tv nor technology stuff but whats the average expected lifespan of a tv?
I was under the impression that they dont “built to last” anymore.

They would love to convince you that way. If you are charging above market price by 30-50% for the same product, it better lasts longer than your competitor. I have learnt, never ever trust the idea of paying a premium for "durablity" from Sony. At least TCL is cheap and good ( as far as the review goes ) and provide 5 years of warranty, no matter how shitty is their support.

I pay for picture quality as well as durability
If you just want a TV get something cheap and keep replacing 👌

Exactly, so avoid Sony at all cost, unless you want something expensive and keep replacing it. It is better getting something cheap and perhaps similar quality and replacing it every 5 years

My Sony S8500D 65inch, going strong since 2016.
However my X9000j 65inch, panel got one line just before warranty ends, thankfully Sony sent ppl down to replace it on the spot.

He meant "Picture" Quality which unfortunately Prism+ is not known for picture quality. Good customer service and longer lifespan is great but if it is at the expense of picture quality then it is a trade-off. We watch TV for the picture and if other tvs can produce the better picture, we're missing out.

Sony TVs have better picture quality than Prism+, just go to the store, bring your usb drive with videos and see for yourself, Prism+ backlight system is sh!t with massive blooming issues because the algorithm can't keep up with what is displaying on the screen. You will see tons of glowing trail on bright objects. Motion and color accuracy also was simply not great with Prism+ compared to other brands, (LG and Sony). Prism+ is using IPS panel for their non oled lineup as well which has the worse contrast ratio among the 3 panel types (IPS, VA and OLED).

If their customer service is top notch and you got lucky with one of the tv lasting longer than usual as what you're claiming and their price is dirt cheap, and you're not those more serious user planning to use a PS5, AV Receiver or PC connected to the TV, and you don't care that much about picture quality (as long can watch can already), than Prism+ is a "decent" buy.

For the more enthusiast user, it is better to buy TVs that have already been reviewed by trusted reviewers who tells you exactly the specs and data of the TV before buying.

Prism+ unfortunately is a no-go, since no trusted reviewers are likely to review their tvs. Like others have mentioned, they are just a repackaged budget / non-serious type of brand suitable to be displayed and bought at ntuc where those non-tech savy consumers (who can't be bothered and can't see a difference in picture quality / to them all tvs cheap or expensive looks the same) go to just grab any random cheap tv they can find. Don't expect picture quality to match the more serious brands that invest millions on R&D (LG, Sony etc).

I'm not going to defend sony if you're claiming their tv lifespan is bad, but when it comes to picture quality, sony is leaps ahead over prism+ there's just no comparison

Exactly, even enthusiast user like you wouldn't defend sony for their durability. Perhaps Sony is only "sensible" for enthusiast who have a lot of money to spare and time to keep replacing it for quality that is only meaningful to the most enthusiastic and don't mind their lousy customer service.

** Btw I wasn't even referring to Prism+, since they only offer 3 years warranty. TCL offers 5.

I have no intentions to defend any brand when it comes to quality control. Look through all the different brands (samsung, tcl, prism etc) threads, there are complains in all shapes and form exactly like yours where they were unluckily given a unit that lasted less than x number of years.

TCL seems to have more complains than Sony if you've read the TCL thread when it comes to customer service/warranty handling, so their "5 years" warranty can be considered a joke in disguise. We can go on and on about all the other brands, tons of horror stories. All these brands have their bads, goods and ugly, just have to pick our poison.

Using Bravia 7 75inch for 2 months now. It's been good, mini-LED is very good, impressed with the picture quality and sharpness. No issues actually with viewing angle, even though my living room is big
