Mari credit card good to apply or not?
Same as SC Unlimited or Citi CashBack PLUS.

You want just apply lor, no fuss 1.7% cashback and 5% shopee card if you link it to your shopee account (NOT ADD AS CREDIT CARD).
Current caveat is no 1.7% for simplygo

Do not use the Add Credit Card option.
You must link your mari account CC to your shopee account.

If you already have a maribank account and you linked it to shopee before, it's the same function.

Anyway, the 5% promo will end by 1st Jan 2025, so if you apply now and use, you only have 1 month to fully utilize it

Mari card what's the FX rate? Is it 3%?
Kept receiving the mari app message said they use Mastercard fx rate and it comes w 3% cashback for foreign currency spent...so it is as good as no cashback to offset the 3% FX rate?

But I see Mastercard fx rate is very attractive

Banks got to earn, as simply as that.
They don't need to "buy" marketshare and if they can give you 3%, it means that they can earn back at least 4-5%

Mari FCY is 3% and this cashback for FCY is 3%, if you were the one running mari, would you perform such "generous" action?

I have previously charged foriegn currency to mari CC without the cashback promo running before, and never am i going to do that again.

I would rather use trust or prepaid cards like revolut, trust, wise than Mari for overseas spend

Very accurate observation. There is no way any bank would give you a generic card, and gives you commission-free FCY conversion, and great rewards for other aspects too (Maribank 5% cashback). At best you'll enjoy it during the promo period.

Stick with dedicated cards for such use cases such as Trust, Wise or Revolut.

Sometimes it is better to have more options.
Having 2 prepaid options is good, and bring along a CC or 2 just in case.

If it wasn't due to being late at night, conditions were bad, it was a do it yourself hotel in some european countryside, was under the assumption that the hotel was already paid for, it was really a last ditch measure to pay for the room using mari CC and get in asap. As i wasnt prepared and didnt have any monies in those prepaid cards nor registered the trust card.

depend on currency and individual preference, dbs rate (youtrip/instarem on par or better) with promo can be slightly better than market rate, but then their product is full of mess so alot of effort into understanding the product and getting the rewards
