Yeah has its problems.

But SG is also expensive to live in if you don't have very large income from stocks or bonds or have a paying job in SG.

Only SGreans and very rich people from overseas can retire in SG.

Same for my army friend who came back late last year…

I was shocked as he didn’t like sg culture ,lifestyle and Govt …

Thought he bought apartment in Aussie and happily settled there … still wondering why he came back …

If you have at least diploma and keep working... Hard to be poor. My sec sch frds most decent life. Except a few, after ITE never upgrade. Got one have the 5 kids. All on financial assistance. Always thanks the sponsors on their fb.

There are pros and cons for each country. Since your relatives are back, maybe you can find out more from them?

Singapore has her own perks but it is also a difficult place to thrive for both local and foreigners. If you have money, anything will be easier for you.

Thing is I am not thinking of retirement. Still working hard to try to get whole family retired. Help kids FIRE in Canada also.

But at the rate inflation is going......unless there is significant deflation it is going to be hard.

Self-sufficient. Be glad you dont have to look after your grandchildren and help your kids pay for their living expenses.

I am not well versed in DIY plumbing carpentry electrical farming etc.

Those foreigner are refusing to let Singapore integrate with them

They see Singapore as jumping board or when time reach just renounce citizenship and go back.
