the box already in chute :ROFLMAO:

Don't see that as an issue. Singtel mistake. They have to take back without the box and replace with correct model. There is a Lemon Law in SG, use it!

Hi cstanhwz,
I need to re-visit your 28Jan25 post with a question as I am deciding which plan to recontract on:
You mentioned you managed to re-contract to the 5GBPS $29.90 plan via the link. I am thinking of doing that too as suggested by xiaofan and yourself. It is a good deal! My question is on the lifestyle products offered with this plan - especially the following three products:
  • 3 months of Microsoft 365 Family subscription on us (U.P. $14.80/mth applies thereafter)
  • 1 month of Security Suite Triple Protect and Parental Control Pass subscription on us (U.P $19.20/mth applies thereafter)
  • 1 month of Spotify Premium subscription (U.P. $10.98/mth applies thereafter)
I do not want the 3 products above because it is for only a very short duration of 1-3 months (plus I already have a one year prepaid subscription to MS 365 Family and also a SPOTIFY Family acct);

If one recontracts on the phone with a Singtel agent, you can verbally tell them which products you wish to OPT OUT of at the time of recontract. But with the link, how do you opt out of an product? It seems there is no where to opt out.

My main concern with these “free” products is that they will start to be charged to your account once the very short free period is over. I read the details sheet and no where did it mentioned that you can terminate after the free period or at any time. Only Amazon Prime details state that you can cancel anytime. I certainly do not want to be trapped by these costly products for 24 months when i already have them or don't want them. Their monthly costs add up to a substantial amount.

Apologies for this long question. Just wondering what you plan to do after the free period is over (either 1 mth or 3 mths).

THANKS!!

Today ST technician came to install the 3gbps enhanced plan, was shocked when he brought the wifi 6 mesh instead of the wifi 7 BE11000 mesh. After that I checked the contract, it is indeed the wifi 6 AP5690w mesh. I believe the sales officer made the mistake as final confimation equipment on WA was the wifi 7 mesh and also I signed up from the mailer I received, which indicates the wifi 7 mesh. Lucky I got black and white, now awaiting confirmation whether replacement can be made even though contract is wifi 6 mesh. Speed overall is slow, even slower than my previous 1gbps plan, feedback on WA and technician will be coming again to check on that and also the digital line which is not working. Quite sway for me I think after the so called 'upgrading'..
Technician came to replace the wifi 6 AP5690w with wifi 7 HB611 mesh just now. I am one with contract agreement already stated the wifi 6 device but still able to replace with the wifi 7 device, probably because I have black and white WhatsApp order details and mailer stating I am the so called targeted customer to enjoy the wifi 7 device offer. One thing is after installation, why I am not able to see the 6G network broadcasted on my desktop? I am using TP-link Archer TX50e wifi 6e lan card with updated firmware, any advice will be very much appreciated.

Update : I managed to recontract via the 5gbps @$29.90 (with wifi 6) link - even though a few SINGTEL agents told me via 1688 (sales, home dept) that I have no such offer under my profile. Got the service agreement today. 😊
Also got a SMS for NLT appt in end Feb and SIngtel Appt in early March.

Thanks all for your help! esp xiaofan, poorguy, cstanhwz.

PS: Wondering why there is NLT appt though? I already have fibre for many years??

For Singtel, they will use another Fibre Terminal port for your new XGS-PON based plan and then disable the existing port.

What happens if the other point used by another telco?

Need to install new TP point?

So NLT will still use my same existing fibre optic cable? just changed out the old FTP box?

So NLT will still use my same existing fibre optic cable? just changed out the old FTP box?

1) NLT --> not touching any thing, just check the signal strength of the other port. No changing of the FTP box.

In my case (old 1998 HDB flat), the NLT guy needed to come into my flat to check. I also needed to sign the paper to say they had done the job.

In some other cases, they may not need to enter your flat.

2) Singtel --> they will install the ONR (connect to the second Fibre Terminal port) and wireless router bundled.

For me I asked him not to setup the lousy Singtel AX5400 router since I could do it later myself and did not want to waste the time.

I checked the wired speed to be okay using my laptop and USB4/TB4 to 10Gbe adapter to make sure the speed was correct for 5Gbps plan.

3) Typical speed -- I usually got better number than the below number by Singtel. But it deeends on your 10G network adapter. If you do not have 10Gbe network adapter, then of course the speed will be lower.

If the other Fibre Terminal point is used by another Telco, you can talk to Singtel and maybe it is possible to use the same FTP point.

By right they can do either way. It is just safer they use the second port --> in case it does not work, your existing 1Gbps line can still work.

It is the same for Starhub, they used to require the use of the seond port for users who upgrade to the new 5Gbps/10Gbps plan to use the second port. Now it seems to me they allow the use of the same port for recontract users. For new sign-up, then it is compulsory to use the second port since they cannot touch your existing internet.

Please refer to this thread.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/5gbe-and-beyond-ethernet-adapters.7068236/

I have three USB4/TB4 to 10G NICs myself (IOcrest, GRiS and XikeStor). I will recommend the IOcrest version.
I bought it at RMB 499 but now the price is at RMB 589.

Hi Xiaofan, yes, it is mentioned in the contract agreement which they sent to me.

Come to think of it, there was a post saying supposed to get the WIFI7 router based on the same contract agreement but was given the WIFI6 router instead as the initial offer was for WIFI6.

Ya, check the recontract link, it was mentioned Singtel AX5400 WIFI6. But of course, the contract agreement is final!

Will see how when they come to install and show them the contract agreement if not given the HB611.

Did singtel technician brings you the HB611 or wifi6 router?

Hi bro, appreciate all your sharing on the various ISPs!

I am a total noob, seeking some answers since it is time to recontract. I am currently on Singtel's 1gbps plan, running my own Asus RT-AX86U router, with desktop running wired and a phones/tablets all via WiFi.

I am contemplating recontracting with this plan online: https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/recon-dm/fibre-5g. Basically the 5gbps plan at $29.90 per month.
  • Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 mesh device
Supposedly comes with the AX5400. I read that we can't use our own routers anymore, so i suppose this AX5400 mesh device is a modem and router combined? Looking at the links you provided, seems to be this? Wi-Fi 6 Mesh AP5690W?

I saw online that this only comes with 2 1GB lan ports. In such case, if i desire to get 5gbps speeds on my wired connection, what options do i have?

Thanks bro!

1. Questions for you.

Are you using Singtel ONT or ONR with your current 1Gbps plan?
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont

Current 1Gbps plan:
1Gbps plan --> Singtel ONT or ONR + your current RT-AX86U router

If you are using ONT, are you using any more advanced features of your RT-AX86U? Like VPN servers or DDNS services or things like that?

2. Upgrading to Singtel 5Gbps plan

If you upgrade to 5Gbps plan, you will get one of the following two ONRs.
The bundled Singtel AX5400 device (AP5690W or WE620242-ST) is not a good one. It is not even a router in reality, just a mesh node (or AP) which needs to be connected to the Singtel ONR in order to function properly.

Let the Singtel installer install the ONR and the bundled AX5400 wireless device. They will not help you to install your RT-AX86U.
Singtel ONR (wired router) 1G LAN port --> Singtel AX5400 device (running as an AP).

You may want to continue using your RT-AX86U as well. If you are using Singtel ONT now, you may have to factory reset the router and then set it up again. If you are using Singtel ONR now, you can just connect it to the other 1G LAN port of the ONR.
Singtel XGS-PON ONR (wired router) another 1G LAN port --> Asus RT-AX86U (Double NAT if in router mode, no Double NAT if in AP mode).

3. Most likely you are not using the advanced feature of the RT-AX86U router. In that case, you can set up your RT-AX86U in AP mode to avoid Double NAT. This may be needed if you want to have single network. For example, if you put the ONR in the DB box and RT-AX86U in the living room, and you have wired device in other rooms.

More about Double NAT.
https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-double-NAT-and-why-is-it-bad

4. BTW, if you are lucky, you may get a better wireless router -- Singtel HB611-SGST as per two reports in this forum. Let Singtel install it for you. Most likely it is like this.
Singtel ONR (wired router) 10G LAN port --> Singtel HB611-SGST in AP mode (if you are lucky)

Hi Xiaofan, thanks for the response!

I am not too sure if i have a ONT or ONR right now. When i get home tonight i'll check. Not using any of the advanced features besides using DNS servers (openDNS, google etc).

Singtel ONR (wired router) 1G LAN port --> Singtel AX5400 device (running as an AP) - In this configuration, am i right to assume that my wireless speeds will be below 1G? Since the lan port in use is just 1G? Also, if i hook up my wired device to the AX5400 device, since the ports are just 1G, my wired desktop will be running at 1G maximum as well.

In this case, regardless of what device they give me, i have to get a router (running as an AP) should i want to achieve anywhere close to 5gbps speeds on both my wired device and wireless devices?

1) Yes, the wireless speed and wired device connected to the Singtel AX5400 device will be below 1Gbps as the WAN/LAN ports are only 1Gbps.

2) Singtel ONR itself is the main router of your home network. It has one 10G LAN port, so you do not need to get extra router if you have a wired device with 5Gbe or 10Gbe network adapter.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/5gbe-and-beyond-ethernet-adapters.7068236

3) For wireless, it is in general not possible to hit above 5Gbps. Usually you get less than 3Gbps at 3m distancde, even if you have a very good WiFi 7 router. Singtel provides two routers if you plan to get from Singtel.

a) HB810 --> 10G capble, WiFi 7 BE22000, at S$16.80 x 24 month = S$403.20.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/wifi7
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb810/
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/TPLink-HB810-WIFI7

b) HB611-SGST --> 2.5G capable, WiFi 7 BE11000 (lucky ones may get this for free).

https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/singtel-wifi-7-router-hb611-sgst

4) You can also buy your own WiFi 7 router as well. I got one TP-Link Archer BE805 from an M1 user at S$300 recently.
