What does it mean that my area is not ready for 10Gbps? In that case can I still get the 6/10Gbps plan? It seems weird my area is not ready when it is a BTO just completed 4 years ago

It seems not ready when i check for new signup, but seems to go through when i do it under recontract.. in that case is that ready or not ready? hmm..

You may want to check with M1 again to see if the recontract offer is available for you or not. Certain areas are partially ready -- only for recontract users but not for new users.

The availability has nothing to do with BTO or non BTO. Nothing to do with NLT Fibre Infrastructure either (ready for 10Gbps long ago). M1 side is the issue.

Basically M1 is slow to upgrade their side of the network, say, access network (OLT, etc) and maybe even core network.

Maybe M1 has learned the lesson from Starhub's issue last year (slow speed during peak time due to backend capacity issues) and decided to roll out the XGS-PON based services slowly.

M1 may have also learned the lesson from the failed rolling out of XG-PON based 5Gbps/10Gbps (not XGS-PON based, with the huge Huawei HN8055Q XG-PON ONT) plan back in 2016. Interestingly Starhub was the most conservative one at that time and did not follow VQ/ST/SI/M1 to come out with 10Gbps plan in 2016. This time Starhub is the most aggressive one to push for 5Gbps/10Gbps plan.

$32.90 for the recontract is price after GST? I am assume is the 1:1 pricing from those coming from the current 500mbps?

All ISPs' Fibre Internet pricing now includes GST. The previous exception was SIMBA's 2.5Gbps plan at S$20 per month which did not include GST. They have changed to include GST now.

M1 500Mbps price should be S$30.45 per month.

S$32.90 per month M1 6Gbps recontract offer (or the new user offer at S$34.90 per month) is a superb offer since it includes a TP-Link Archer BE805 10G capable WiFi 7 router which costs S$300+ if you sell it in Carousell.

I think I will wait. These promotions will get better and better. Price will also get cheaper.

I think 10Gbps plan will drop price but not the 6Gbps plan. Can wait for 10Gbps plan.

Hard to beat the effective price of M1 6Gbps if we consider the bundled router's current market value.

M1 is the best among the big there in terms of bundled router for the lower cost base plans. SingTel usually bundles junk grade wireless router (now with so-called SingTel AX5400 device for 5Gbps plan) and Starhub kind of follows SingTel since the days of Nokia Beacon 1 (now with NoKia Beacon 2 or TP-Link EX510 for the 5Gbps plan).

But indeed WiFi 7 router price will drop. So if you are with M1 500Mbps plan at S$30.45 per month (out of contract pricing remains the same), you can always wait for better recontract offers in the future. Who knows next time they will have a better router than Archer BE805 (eg: Archer BE800) at the same S$32.90 per month or less top-up for Asus ZenWiFi BT10 (say S$10 per month and not S$12 per month).

Not so sure if M1 will also learn from SingTel/Starhub to offer a junk router for 6Gbps plan at a reduced price say at S$28.90 per month in the future. :ROFLMAO:

Actually now Starhub is quite successful for their Homehub+ plan and internet plan. No more 1Gbps plan for new sign up. Most users quite happy about their service. Of course, the price war will continue la. 10 Gbps price will drop again for sure. SH bundled Router for 10Gbps plan is quite ok.

Best if they make it $20 per month and I buy my own wifi 7 router.

don't give them ideas. They are the one who helped to drive down router prices haha. paying $32.90/mth with a good BE805 is really good for value, I never expect m1 to give such good deal. Tomorrow going to help my relative sign up for m1 fibre, sadly the location cannot support 3gbps plan and above.

Actually if just one user or just one person living alone is ok to use 3 Gbps la. The good thing is 2.5Gbps usb LAN adaptor is very cheap so do not need to waste so much money on hardware. Cheap and good.

$20/mth is impossible as you must look into inflation and your $20 is very very little only.
Maybe $19.99/mth for 1gbps without a router is possible. If not they can throw in a cheapo Nokia router. Or maybe ONR haha.

True. Probably will recommend my relative either 1gbps or 2.5gbps as my relative is staying alone. A normal router will do.

Can give them ideas but it has to be those that benefit consumers. Like free broadband/internet access nationwide. Become the only country in the world to do so. :s13:

But we all know that will never happen. This country is always Pay And Pay.

$20 for 1Gbps will be a really good price and I think I will stick to such a plan if the price remains the same after the contract ends.

Unfortunately this will never happen since NLT charges the ISPs at S$13.50 per user per month (1:24 split ratio). You have to wait long long for anything like S$20 per month to happen from Singtel/M1/Starhub unless NLT reduces the price further. The lowest previously was S$21.80 for WC/SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan but both have raised price (without wireless router bundle).

NLT charges -- S$15 per month per user initially.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...network/netlink-trusts-ico/19-schedule-15.pdf

Reduced to S$13.80 per month per user based on the following IMDA file dated 2-March-2020.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...work/schedule-15-approved-date-2-mar-2020.pdf

Furher reduced to S$13.50 from April 2024 onwards as per the following DBS article.

The cost could only go down if we have strong growth of households (and population), so the fixed cost can be spread across more people.

I have updated the following Post #5 in the sticky thread on top of this forum section. You can see the price has gone down a lot but there is a limit.

BTW, I am constantly updating the posts in the first page of this sticky thread to list the latest Fibre Internet offers from the local consumer ISPs. So you may want to check it out from time to time.

⚡️💻 [Official] README First! 2025 SG ISP Comparison & Latest Promo Deals! ✨
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...sg-isp-comparison-latest-promo-deals.6665380/

1. Why it is difficult for local consumer ISPs to offer S$20 per month (with GST) Fibre Internet plans?

This is because NLT charges the ISPs at S$13.50 per user per month (1:24 split ratio). Therefore it is difficult for any ISPs to offer S$20 per month to happen from Singtel/M1/Starhub unless NLT reduces the price further. The lowest per month pricing previously was S$21.80 for WC/SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan but both have raised price (without wireless router bundle).

2. Just some history here about pricing.
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/feature-why-fibre-broadband-is-so-fast-singapore
https://www.tech.gov.sg/media/technews/history-of-the-internet/

Fibre internet service
1) 2010: 25Mbps/50Mbps/100Mbps/1Gbps plans, M1 1Gbps is at S$399 per month.
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tec...ces-new-broadband-plans-new-national-fibre-ne
https://corporate.starhub.com/about...omebroadbandplansfornextgenerationnation.html

2) 2013-->2014, rapid price drop of 1Gbps services. I actually did not know that Singtel was a late comer to 1Gbps plan. MR was the disrupter then.
https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/feature-overview-fastest-fiber-broadband-plans-singapore
CY14-1Gbps-fiber-prices.jpg

3) 2016 --> 10Gbps plan launched by SIngtel/M1/VQ/SI with much lower price than when 1Gbps plans were launched in 2010. It was probably ahead of its time so only Singtel kept the 10Gbps plan until Starhub launched 10Gbps in 2023.

10Gbps plan Launch price --> Singtel/M1 at S$189 per month, SI at S$199 per month, VQ 10Gbps plan at S$218 per month.

https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/fea...s-end-end-10gbps-home-fiber-broadband-service

4) late 2023/2024/2025 --> rapid drop of 10Gbps/6Gbps/5Gbps plan pricing.

The cost could only go down if we have strong growth of households (and population), so the fixed cost can be spread across more people.

Unfortunately this is also unlikely to happen given the low resident total fertility rate which has dropped below 1.0 to 0.97 in 2023 (1.04 in 2022 and 1.12 in 2021, but hopefully a bit higher in year 2024 due to the Dragon Year Effect).

Reference:
https://www.singstat.gov.sg/find-data/search-by-theme/population/births-and-fertility/latest-data
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sin...lity-rate-population-parents-children-4155616

Still I think NLT charges per user per month can be lower with better productivities in the future, But how low it can go is another story. The volume of the total Fibre Internet connection is more or less saturated at 1.507 million for residential fibre connection as per the following DBS article.

Reference:
https://www.dbs.com.sg/treasures/ai...t/data/en/DBSV/052024/NETLINK_SP_05202024.xml

Residential connection continues to be the key contributor at 60% of revenue in 4Q24 (60% in 3Q24). In 4Q24, NLT’s residential fibre connection increased to 1.507mn from 1.501mn in 3Q24 while non-residential fibre connections increased to 53.5k from 53.2k. From April 2024, residential connection pricing was lowered by 2% to S$13.50 per connection while non-residential is unchanged at S$55 per connection.

it's not about your recent bto or residential area, it's about M1 back-end or their infrastructure lol
