Unfortunately this will never happen since NLT charges the ISPs at S$13.50 per user per month (1:24 split ratio). You have to wait long long for anything like S$20 per month to happen from Singtel/M1/Starhub unless NLT reduces the price further. The lowest previously was S$21.80 for WC/SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan but both have raised price (without wireless router bundle).

NLT charges -- S$15 per month per user initially.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...network/netlink-trusts-ico/19-schedule-15.pdf

Reduced to S$13.80 per month per user based on the following IMDA file dated 2-March-2020.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...work/schedule-15-approved-date-2-mar-2020.pdf

Furher reduced to S$13.50 from April 2024 onwards as per the following DBS article.
https://www.dbs.com.sg/treasures/ai...t/data/en/DBSV/052024/NETLINK_SP_05202024.xml
Didn't know NLT still charge so high, pretty much very greed. Most households in Singapore are already fibre linked, don't understand why the cost is still so high.

Judging that M1 can give free router for just $34.90.

It means router price is about $20 per month ($500) and then for the 6gbps connection is only about $15 worth.

It cannot be them giving free router at a loss of the product price.

So in the future high speed bandwidth can be as cheap as $15 to $20 without router ?

Can give them ideas but it has to be those that benefit consumers. Like free broadband/internet access nationwide. Become the only country in the world to do so. :s13:

But we all know that will never happen. This country is always Pay And Pay.

$20 for 1Gbps will be a really good price and I think I will stick to such a plan if the price remains the same after the contract ends.
Honestly, free wifi hotspot is already available in Singapore. Free internet is not possible as there are many high cost involve in the implementation of the internet infrastructure. Lots of hardwares are needed and such hardwares need spaces. Need to buy some properties to house the hardwares. Maintenance of the network also cost lots of money and engineers also need lots of money. This internet thing is super big project. Marine cables are very expensive too. No money who will work for you. Not say we are pay n pay, everywhere also must pay. No more 1Gbps plan so how can we have $20 for 1Gbps plan? Will you work as an engineer for your company for free? It is all common sense.

That is not the way to count la. May be buy in bulk, the router say $5 per month only or Govt help to pay.

That's why I said it will never happen here. But it could be implemented in some other country in future. Probably some middle east country I reckon.

We have all been overcharged long ago. Look at prices of mobile plans for example. There are many MVNO plans now which cost less than $10 a month compared to those days of the 3 main telcos charging at least $30 for plans which are way more miserable.

Maybe $19.99/mth for 1gbps without a router is possible. If not they can throw in a cheapo Nokia router. Or maybe ONR haha.

True. Probably will recommend my relative either 1gbps or 2.5gbps as my relative is staying alone. A normal router will do.
Now Starhub has do away 1Gbps plan. It will be better to get 2.5Gbps plan. M1 2.5 Gbps plan is good enough and the price is good. Their M1 free router is already good.

I am using redone $8 plan. We are not in this line so we may not know what happened. Over-charged is not the correct word to use.

You try check out with your fiber service id as discount.

See if it works
Sorry, not very sure what's a fiber service id, how do I find it?

I'm planning to subscribe new broadband for my new home that's currently under reno, probably mid-late mar then can move in, currently considering M1 because they offer Asus BT10.

If you are a new subscriber then the price is $34.90 which you can just apply on their website without any discount code. Just choose the 6gbps plan.

I think if you pick BT10 have to pay additional $12 per mth.

Anyone know a work around to move existing fibre service to a new location without incurring both new terminal charge and relocation fee? It seems cheaper to just sign a new service and pay off the rest of my contract.

Terminate contract is not cheap. Consider carefully.

Indeed the calculation is not correct.

1) ISP needs to pay NLT per user S$13.50 per month, so it is in general impossible to offer S$15 or even S$20 per month Fibre Internet service (with GST). The previous lowest price plan was from WC and SIMBA for 2.5Gbps at S$21.80 per month, but both have raised the price later.

Reference:
https://www.dbs.com.sg/treasures/ai...t/data/en/DBSV/052024/NETLINK_SP_05202024.xml

Residential connection continues to be the key contributor at 60% of revenue in 4Q24 (60% in 3Q24). In 4Q24, NLT’s residential fibre connection increased to 1.507mn from 1.501mn in 3Q24 while non-residential fibre connections increased to 53.5k from 53.2k. From April 2024, residential connection pricing was lowered by 2% to S$13.50 per connection while non-residential is unchanged at S$55 per connection.

2) Router bulk purchase price will be much lower. In fact M1 is offering TP-Link Archer BE805 at S$360 (S$15 x 24) with PWP. M1 is also offer a pair of Asus ZenWiFi BT10 at S$504 (S$21 x 24). So we know the cost price by M1 for Archer BE805 is lower than S$360. Same two ZenWiFi BT10 cost to M1 is less than S$504.

We do not know the exact cost price for Archer BE230 to M1 though. I guess it will be about S$240 for Archer BE805 (assume M1 marks up 1/3 for PWP offer). In that case, M1's base cost for 6Gbps plan (with Archer BE805) is estimated to be S$13.5+S$10 = S$23.50 per month for 6Gbps plan without considering other cost. M1's pricing at S$32.90 (recontract offer) or S$34.09 per month (new user offer) does not earn much money for M1 but will not lose money either.

M1 relocation charges are quite low $61.04 (compared to SingTel and Starhub). New location should have TP point already? If yes, there should only be relocation charges.

Long time ago (2017), I managed to relocate M1 500mbps without any fee. Not sure if the situation is still the same.

Just give them a call and ask for waiver. May be can mention that you are prepared to pay off the termination fee if waiver not granted.

how many months do you have left? You can check your current contract, how much is the Early Termination Charge.

2 scenarios
If the charge is < (less than), the amount you pay monthly x the months left, then it's cheaper to terminate.
If the charge is > (more than), the amount you pay monthly x the months left, then it's cheaper to continue to pay monthly till the end of the contract. You have 2 ports, the other service can run on other ports

I just called M1. They say cannot upgrade or re-contract as need 5 months before contract expire then can re-contract.
