For sure peeahpee and their castrated mlm will be harping on it non stop but i doubt it has any significant effect on wp brand or resources, it might even be a boon in generating a david vs goliath narrative. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Since peeahpee wants to politicize and even drag the judiciary into it, get ready to reap what they sow. It's not a guaranteed win for them and given the very contrived nature and sui sui timing of this case, many people can see it for what it really is. It can equally backfire and lose them many votes, especially among the young voters. It's not like the pap to take such risks but I think they are desperate this election.

The bigger issue is dragging the judiciary into this. They might think having the judiciary rule on a political matter will make it seem impartial but it could equally politicize the judiciary and start reducing people's trust in the courts. In any case, another line is now crossed....

Anyway, dragging the jurisdiction into this is one thing but the guilty verdict had did a blown to the judiciary system of Singapore. No one will take Singapore law serious, especially, those freedom for speech nation. It so obvious the whole end game of the trial was about.

He has to appeal because he will not accept the accusations that he lied and hence will carry it to the full extent of the law as a matter of principle. Accepting it means admitting he lied. If high courts gives an enhanced sentence, it will further erode trust in the legal system since this is a political case and PS will come out as a martyr which is definitely not what they pap wants. I am surprised the pap played this strategy, they have either lost touch with political reality or are really desperate

It is unlikely that the appeal will be heard before the impending GE.

As a politician he has to appeal, even if eventually he gets a harsher sentence than this. The upcoming election is more important and considering that it is better for him to file the appeal than to give up the appeal.

Thats why the judiciary should never be involved. Politics is not their domain. To preserve trust in them as impartial arbiters, they should never have been in this. Now they will always be perceived to be taking a side in politics .....
